Apple took the defense of its App Store practices directly to its consumers, launching a new web page as it prepares for a court battle over accusations claiming the company has monopolistic control over iOS apps.
The page appeared this morning on Apple’s website with the title “App Store, Principles and Practices.”

Apple shares are having a rough time right now — but, don’t fear, investors simply think this is a great opportunity to invest.
Shares in AAPL are currently trading at $177.39. That’s down from a high of $211.75 at the start of May. It’s also way down from Apple’s all-time high of $233.47 in October. Unless things turn around in the next couple of days, that will mean Apple posting its worst month of 2019.

Today we have another great tip ripped form the iPhone’s accessibility settings. The screen reader lets you use a quick two-finger gesture to read anything on the screen. This is obviously designed for folks who have trouble reading the screen, but it is also very handy for everyone else.
You can listen to a long magazine article while you do the dishes for example, and much more.
We hope iOS 13 looks a lot like this. Photo: Alvaro Pabesio
The big iOS 13 news is all about the iPad. Or at least, we expect it to be based on rumors and leaks. But what about the iPhone? How will iOS 13 shape up on the most popular of iOS devices? Will it be a dead year, while the iPad gets all the (somewhat overdue) attention? Or will it be just as exciting for iPhone owners?
The good news is, the iOS update will probably be huge overall. In recent years, Apple has managed to lock down the secrecy around software, but this year the rumors — based on purported leaks — abound. That might mean the iOS 13 is bursting with new stuff.

A rare Apple-1 computer built by Steve Wozniak in 1976 has sold for $471,000 in a Christie’s auction.
According to the Apple-1 Registry of known Apple-1 computers, this is number 10 of just 68 thought to be still in existence. Only 200 Apple-1 computers were ever made.
The new iPod touch looks just like the old one. Photo: Apple
Apple just surprised us with a new iPod touch that promises to be its fastest yet.
Powered by a speedy A10 Fusion processor, it’s built for gaming and immersive augmented reality experiences on the go. It’s also affordable, with prices starting at just $199.
The only problem is it looks just like the old iPod touch.
iOS 12.3.1 only takes out a few bugs, but it still should be installed. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
Apple unexpectedly introduced iOS 12.3.1 this afternoon. It comes just a few weeks after the last update, and apparently only takes care of three bugs, two of which relate to spam in Messages.

Apple just dropped a new MacBook Pro with faster Intel processors that deliver even greater performance. But more importantly, it features “new material” that Apple hopes will fix its keyboard woes.
The machine now been pulled apart by iFixit so that we can see exactly what’s changed under the hood. Don’t expect anything too dramatic or you’ll be sorely disappointed.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could take that awesome (and hilarious!) GIF, and use it as an animated wallpaper for your iPhone? You could wake your iPhone, press on the screen, and watch the action unfold. Over and over. And over.
Sadly, GIF wallpapers are impossible. Or are they? Well, you can’t set an actual GIF to run as your lock-screen wallpaper, but you can convert any GIF into a Live Photo, and use that to animate your iPhone’s lock screen.
You should install iOS 12.3, but be aware that if you do so you can’t go back to the previous version. Photo: Pexels
All who’ve upgraded their phone or tablet to iOS 12.3 can no longer backtrack to the previous version. This is because Apple has stopped signing iOS 12.2.
It’s not a reflection on that older version, but a standard action for the company to take. It always ends the installation of obsolescent versions shortly after a new one is introduced.
Apple’s clip-on keyboard isn’t very protective. Dodocase makes a folio sleeve that fits around it for extra shielding. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
The Apple Smart Keyboard Folio turns an iPad Pro into an ultralight laptop, but it’s so slim it doesn’t do much to shield the tablet inside. We tested a sleeve from Dodocase that goes around Apple’s keyboard to protect both it and the iPad. It also improves the look of the keyboard case.
Be sure to read our hands-on review of the handy Keyboard Folio Sleeve.

Apple’s marketing for the recently-announced 2019 MacBook Pro emphasizes how much faster it than last year’s model, and now a benchmark score may confirm that this macOS laptop is almost 30 percent speedier.
Add your own music to your iPhone without iTunes. Photo: Charlie Sorrel/Cult of Mac
Maybe in iOS 13 we’ll be able to add songs to our music iPhone libraries without having to wake up a Mac or PC running iTunes. Until then, there’s no way to listen to songs downloaded from Bandcamp, or exported from GarageBand, alongside the rest of your music collection.
But there’s a workaround. Vox is a slightly confusing music app that combines your built-in Apple Music library with your Soundcloud, Spotify, and other services. And it will also let you import any audio file, and then add it to playlists and so on. Let’s know more about how to achieve this.
10.8% in ’94. Plus, Apple’s software sales were growing more slowly than those of rival companies. Curious about what is an Apple Fellow? This article provides more insights.
Just in case you worried that Apple wasn't going to release any more iPhones! Photo: Apple
One way to get an idea of what Apple devices are on the way is to check the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) regulatory database. The database just got a new update — confirming a number of new 2019 iPhones.
11 new models have shown up, described as “Apple smartphones.” While it’s absolutely no surprise that new iPhones are on the way, this year’s update is slightly earlier than normal. Apple devices typically turn up in this database a couple of months before launch. Although don’t get too excited about a summer iPhone release!
Apple committed to transparency on the effects of iOS updates to iPhone performance. Photo: Ste Smith/Cult of Mac
Apple signed an agreement with the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) that it will be “clearer and more upfront” about how changes made in iOS updates will affect the performance and battery lives of current and future iPhones.

Users of recent 15-inch MacBook Pro models need to install an updated version of macOS that was just released this morning. Details are scanty, but Apple says this fixes an unspecified firmware issue related to the T2 security chip.
This is what pre-iOS 13 audio looks like to a visitor from next year. Photo: Charlie Sorrel/Cult of Mac
There’s one big thing I wish for when I kneel next to my bed at night, cross my fingers and think of iOS 13: better audio. Not better quality audio. That’s already great. I just want better control, and better features.
And this isn’t just specialized podcasting or music-making stuff. There are problems everywhere. You know how when you’re listening to music, and you open up the camera app, and your music stops playing? That kind of problem. Which is number one one on my list by the way. Check out the rest:
Safari is about to get a big privacy boost. Photo: Apple
Apple revealed this morning that it has new plan to stop online ads from tracking internet users across the web.
With some new technology that will soon be implemented in Safari, Apple thinks it has found a way to give both advertisers and privacy advocates what they one. It’s called Privacy Preserving Ad Click Attribution and even though the name is lame, it could be a game changer.
Vignette searches popular platforms to find pictures for your contacts Photo: Ian Fuchs/Cult of Mac
If you’re anything like me, you love having contact photos for people you talk to most. But, again, if you’re like me, keeping those pictures updated and accurate can be a total pain and a massive time suck.
That’s where Vignette comes in. The simple utility app for iPhone is your key to a better looking contacts list without all the hassle.
Escape the nightmare that is iOS autocorrect. Photo: Charlie Sorrel/ Cult of Mac
I love and hate typing on the iPad Pro’s on-screen keyboard. I love that it’s a proper keyboard, with a number row, and extra punctuation keys. But I hate that auto-correction is more of a comedy lexical lottery than an actual correction feature. So I finally decided to do something about it. I switched off autocorrect on my iPad, and here’s what happened.
Apple’s not ditching the MacBook butterfly keyboard yet. Photo: Apple
Apple updated its Keyboard Service Program today to also include support for the 2018 MacBook Pro and 2018 MacBook Air.
The news comes on the heels of Apple’s unveiling of new MacBook Pros this morning with 8-core processors and butterfly keyboards with new materials. With the updated program, any MacBook with a butterfly keyboard is now eligible for service free of charge.
It's not clear what is causing the problem. Photo: Apple
Apple just brought Intel’s latest eighth- and ninth-generation chips to the MacBook Pro, making it the company’s fastest ever laptop.
The newest 8-core models deliver up to twice the performance of a quad-core MacBook Pro, and up to 40% more than a 6-core model. They also promise powerful graphics, a T2 Security Chip, super-fast SSDs, and “all-day” battery life.
This could be an important development for an Apple Car. Photo: j3n53r/Flickr CC
As part of its Project Titan initiative, Apple has invented some smart tech for improving detection of road signs and other vehicles on the road in low visibility situations.
This could ramp up safety in situations such as an autonomous Apple Car driving in foggy, snowy, low light or otherwise hard-to-see situations.
A wireless charging mat should look as good as it works, and Satechi’s does. Photo: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac
Wireless charging is so much easier than the daily hassle of plugging and unplugging your iPhone. And the new AirPods wireless charging case makes giving up Lightning cables even more logical. Satechi just introduced a Apple-compatible wireless charger that’s not only functional, it’s also great looking.
We fully tested this accessory out, so don’t miss our hands-on review.
