Steve Wozniak, one of the two famous Steves who created Apple Computer back in the early days of Silicon Valley, went to the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco this evening, unaware that a party was brewing there in his honor.
The surprise birthday party was thrown by Fusion-io, the company that employs Wozniak as chief scientist. Secretly invited guests arrived to find pink boas, noise makers, and a chance to play Tetris, according to AllThingsD, who took some photos at the event.
How such a tech-savvy crowd managed to keep things a secret from the Woz is a testament to their dedication to the man himself. Apparently, one drunk message showed up last night, but Steve’s wife was able to delete it from all of Woz’s phones and devices before he saw it.
The company is celebrating a new advance in cloud-server storage technology, as well. In a press release today, Fusion.io announced a new bit of software for server computers called the ION Data Accelerator, and it allows companies with huge data storage needs, like Apple and Facebook, to use flash storage instead of hard drives in servers, cranking up the speed of data throughput by quite a bit.
Seems fairly appropriate to throw the chief scientist’s birthday party on the same day as the announcement, right?
