Now here’s something else you don’t see every day: musician and entrepreneur Jean Michel Jarre has introduced the AeroDream One, an 11 foot tall technological marvel that combines an all-purpose iDevice dock and a 10,000W stereo system for the ultimate in colossal home entertainment.

The gargantuan dock stands 11 feet (3.4m) tall, has a diameter of 16.3 inches (415mm) and weighs 871 pounds (395kg). It thoughtfully includes a built in ladder so you can dock your iPhone, iPad or iPod on the top – though how you control them from the couch once they’re up there is a bit of a mystery. Other devices can also be connected via the included stereo minijack, XLR line level inputs or a USB port. Cost is €399,000 (about $565,000).

The single column stereo system includes five separate amplifiers (subwoofer, 2 midrange and 2 high end) and is rated from 25Hz to 20kHz. Each AeroDream One is custom built, the company is taking pre-orders now with delivery promised in six months. At the time of its release, Jarre said:

“With the progress of technology, the conditions of recording music in the studio have advanced considerably, whereas the means of listening in general have not ceased to regress: the vinyl has been replaced by the CD, largely inferior in quality, which has now given way to even more low-grade MP3 files. We have progressively lost our emotional rapport with sound.”

Customers can choose between 3 different color schemes – chrome, black or white – and will receive two free VIP tickets to Jarre’s upcoming World Tour plus get to meet the artist in person.

For those with less lofty ceilings and budgets, the company also offers the smaller AeroSystem One mini-tower dock for iPhones or iPods at €799 ($1,140). iPad owners with smaller (but still ample) budgets and no electricity may want to check out the iVictrola iPad dock as an alternative…

No this is a real product, see the link at the start of the article.  How practical this is, that’s a different question…

  5. Robi says:

This is not for mass-production, we can see, right? This is a kind of awesomeness in its way.

  6. gola99 says:

Interesting, COM hasn’t covered the ridiculous article about apple removing the Galaxy 7.7 from the IFA stand…

  7. YellowstoneRocks says:

So a 565,000 dollar system designed to play low grade inferior mp3’s? according to his quote it should have a vinyl player on top.

  9. Chris says:

For that price you could expect a hydraulical lift

  10. Chris Jones says:

They don’t expect to sell these, it’s a way to generate marketing hype so that people will then notice the more moderately priced version.

  11. guest says:

It looks awesome….but what about having the dock on the base and this way you don’t need the ladder????

  12. Ronald Stepp says:

Don’t forget the $15M you’ll need to build your new house around it.

Does he ever heard about AirPlay?!? :-)
You have to go upstairs every time you want to change the song, lol
    Too stupid

  15. MiosLaurie says:

This way you don’t ruin this beautiful design ;-)

  16. Christian Park says:

The fucks the point of that? It looks like one of those heaters that they have outside on the patio for restaurants  This is dumb as hell.

  17. Adam Rosen says:

I think anyone who can afford this is using either uncompressed WAV files or the Apple Lossless Codec.  I’d either hook the XLR inputs up to my preamp, or pop an Airport Express on top and sit on the couch with my iDevice…

  18. CamilloMiller says:

Didn’t know Apple sneaked into Samsung’s booth to remove one of their products. Did they disguised themselves as Polizei?

  19. JulianKeznde says:

still can’t believe it I just got a $829.99 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for. I use http://alturl.com/8yjuf

Oh yes now lets play some 128kpbs tracks….BASS TO THE MAXIMUM!

I’m french, so, to explain : For years, j.m. Jarre had been a has-been, who made two or three electronic easy standards in the 80’s, and then playing his same music for fireworks on 14 juillet.
He had always be making the show with weird interfaces for synths, like laser-harps or so.
I think hé found a new way for make the buzz around him, and a lot of money.
    I can’t believe a minute that his hi-end systems could be audiophile-class.
Please, cult of Mac, don’t report those craps….

  22. Ramón says:

I’m still pissed at myself for having bought some of his crap music in the 70s. He was the Yoko Ono of electronic music.

  23. gareth edwards says:

    what a waste of money.

  24. Al says:

Think about fashion shows. Often most — sometimes ALL — of the garments paraded down the catwalk are not there to be sold, or even worn in a normal situation. They are simply pieces of art, meant to showcase the designers’ talent and imagination. Often they are outlandish, ridiculous, and completely impractical.

I think Jarre is doing something similar. This is an attention-grabbing piece of art, to show off what he can do. Just like many catwalk items, t’s not meant to be something most people would buy. it just makes a statement.

He will sell you more ordinary and practical iPad accessories, with his design and price tag, later.

  25. Ozivillan says:

putting a ipad on top of it really cheapens the piece of art

  26. Ayers16412 says:

the requirement of a ladder to dock and undock the iPad, is a design failure.

  27. Jos Lendi says:

replaced by the CD, largely inferior in quality

if the man himself gives equinox a make-over 5.1 DTS studio recording not live ore simple upmix
a lot of people would give him 100€ for it
