Why your iPhone suddenly feels slow

Does your iPhone feel like it’s been running slower since the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus came out? It turns out there’s a good reason for that.

Data firm Statista plotted the historical trends of the search term “slow iPhone” across the past seven years, and discovered that invariably, it peaks when a new Apple phone gets released.

There are a couple reasons for that. First, the very fact that a “newer” iPhone has come out psychologically makes you feel like your old phone is slower.

But there’s also quite possibly a real slowness correlation at work there too. Apple tends to release new versions of iOS simultaneously with new iPhones, and major new iOS updates do tend to make older hardware run slower.

The lesson here? If you’re worried about your iPhone being slow, first of all, consider holding off on updates when Apple drops new versions of iOS until you see the benchmarks come in. And don’t overthink it: Just because Apple has released something faster, doesn’t mean your iPhone’s suddenly running slower.
