How big of a success is Apple Pay? Just three weeks after its launch, Apple’s mobile payment system is already a player at Whole Foods, where it represents almost 1 percent of all transactions.

Whole Foods has already processed more than 150,000 Apple Pay transactions, according to CIO Jason Buechel, who spoke on the matter to The Wall Street Journal last week.

That number, according to former Google and PayPal exec Mike Dudas, is enough to deduce that Apple Pay transactions represent almost 1 percent of all purchases at the high-end grocer.

That’s the kind of stat, if true, that must give pause to entrenched players in the mobile payment space, like Google and CurrentC. Shortly after its October 20 launch, Apple Pay is already racking up almost 1 percent of all transactions at one of the biggest U.S. health food chains. How soon till it has the same pick-up rate at other major retailers?
