i was reading were there is not going to be an ipad 3 or 4 or even 5 all new ipads will be referred to as ” the new ipad ” won’t people get confused after the next ipad is released and called “the new ipad “.
why not stay with the same format that is working like ipad, ipad 2, we should be seeing ipad 3 or ipad Hd now . p.s cultcast rocks…..
great question thanks robert
Steve Jobs reportedly stated “he cracked it” speaking about the TV, and the “simplest user interface”. going with the new Apple TV update today, with the software, does this look like an incremental step in the right direction? away from the horizontal menu, using more iOS-type friendly and bright icons. Would it have been a step too quick for Apple to completely change the user interface and experience, hence the incremental step?
P.S I’ll hopefully be in the queue for the new iPad in Glasgow – Do we have a launch hashtag devised yet?
:)

I have a feeling that once the fourth generation iPad comes out the current one will be renamed iPad Classic, similar to what happened with the iPod.
With the new retina display, is it better to avoid putting a screen protector on the iPad? Or do you think it is still necessary?
How will you protect your iPad 3? A smart cover? A back protector?
I would love to buy both the new iPad and the next generation of MacBook when it is announced. However, I’m a student, so I’m on a budget. My question is when do you anticipate the MacBook announcement? Do you think I would I have enough time to buy the iPad, and then save a little for the new Macs?
What would be the minimum resolution your photos would have to be to look noticeably better on the new retina screen compared to the old iPad? For example would you notice much difference looking at photos from a 5MP point and shoot?
@Robert McDonald
I think this won’t be a problem at all. After all, Apple is doing the same with iMac, iPod touch or MacBooks. It will be easy and not confusing at all. Remember when a new iMac or MacBook Pro is released Apple also calls them “The all new iMac” or ” The new faster MacBook Pro” besides noone gets confused if you just call them iPad early 2012 or iPad late 2013 or whatever :)
I think it is better not having an suffix such HD or a number on the name iPad. An iPad is an iPad and it differs only from one generation to the other. Apple is using it already in their descriptions. so people won’t get confused. It will read simply iPad 2nd generation, iPad 3rd generation and so on, but the name will be just iPad. If you turn your iPad 2 over what is written there? iPad or iPad 2? :-) same goes for iPhone. Also other Apple products such as the iMac also don’t have an suffix. You don’t say you have an iMac 13 or so :) You say iMac late 2009 or such. Same will be with iPad i guess…
I have heard some people complaining the name “the new iPad”, but also heard someone say that this hints at device like an iPad mini. Thoughts?
After watching the keynote speech and looking at all of the pundit’s comments and articles on the Internets I can’t seem to find that discussion that intrigues me. Why didn’t they put Siri on the new iPad? The dictation functionality seems halfway there. It of course is possible that they could enable it with a new release of iOS before the next new iPad comes out. Let’s here your speculation during the podcast.
I have a question, what’s with this New iPad only getting verbal dictation but no Siri? I’d like to get an official reason behind this decision from Apple because it just don’t understand it. I understand you can’t be guaranteed online service with the New iPad but you also can’t with your iPhone, there are many times your iPhone doesn’t get service and you can’t access Siri. For example when your iPhone is put in Airplane mode or when arrive in an area with no service, what’s the difference? We all know you can’t access Siri without a concoction to the internet just like you can’t make a cell phone call in an area with no signal. I believe it’s only a matter of time before all cell phones and tablet’s get a fully functional Siri type assistant so why hold this technology back now? People are just going to be forced to download some other Siri type clone App now so they can do the same thing Siri can already do, so what’s the point? Any thoughts?
PS: Of course I did order the New iPad the improvements are well worth it, just with it had Siri.
How about an Apple TV question?
Is Apple going in the right direction with the new Apple TV UI? Without customization to organize or hide things the UI is filled with bloatware “apps” that many do not use. Which brings up another question. How many people actually buy movies and TV shows from iTunes or are people just using the Apple TV for streaming Netflix?
Agreed that sticking with basic product names is simple. However, one interesting point is that only the iPad and iPhone have used this revision designation in the product name and that both the iPad and iPhone are Apple’s top sellers.
Will reverting to just iPad, and possible just iPhone, have any impact on sales? The rational logical tech enthusiast in me says “No way, that’s ridiculous” but the jaded cynical side of me who is constantly amazed at the illogical behavior of his fellow humans isn’t so sure.
Is it just me or does Tim Cook do a piss poor job of getting the public excited about the new products during Apple keynotes? After watching the Keynote last night I was extremely underwhelmed (until iPhoto was presented) whereas when Steve Jobs presented the iPad 2 last year I COULD NOT wait to give Apple my $599. This is even more troubling considering “The New iPad” is a much better product update compared the the iPad 2. What are your thoughts?

Hopefully no late 2012 iPads… I would be pretty furious about that and I don’t know why. :/
Any idea if either Verizon or AT&T iPad LTE versions are compatible with the LTE network in Hong Kong?
