Apple TV+ added a new docuseries to its roster of upcoming content after striking a deal with actress and comedian Wanda Sykes’ production company this week.
Visible: Out on Television is set to debut on Apple TV+ on February 14, 2020. The five-part series will examine how television shaped the LGBTQ movement and vice-versa and will include a lot of familiar faces you’ll probably recognize.
Visible will likely be the first docuseries to premiere on Apple TV+. The service launched with the movie documentary Elephant Queen. Oprah is also working on multiple docuseries for Apple TV+ but a premiere for those projects hasn’t been given yet.
Created by filmmakers Ryan White and Jessica Hargrave, each hour-long episode of Visible will explore themes like invisibility, homophobia and characters and coming out in the TV industry. The show will combine archival footage with interviews with celebrities that experienced being out on television. Some of the stars interviewed for the show include Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah Winfrey, Anderson Cooper, Billy Porter, Rachel Maddow, Don Lemon, Sara Ramirez and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
The show is narrated by Neil Patrick Harris, Margaret Cho, Lena Waithe, Margaret Cho and Asia Kate Dillon. Sykes is listed as a producer along with Wilson Cruz, White and Hargrave.
