Verizon just made it much more affordable to use your smartphone abroad by offering an unlimited international calling plan for $15 a month. The plan covers calls back to the U.S. from overseas, as well as calls to friends in other countries while you’re at home.
It seems the new plan is a response to AT&T’s international day pass, announced earlier this week, which is a rip-off in comparison. While AT&T will charge you $10 for international calls over a 24-hour period, Verizon will let you chat as much as you like for a whole month for just $5 more.
There are some restrictions, however. Verizon’s “Unlimited Together” plan lets you call landlines in over 70 countries, but cellphones in only 40 countries. However, it does include discounted calling to over 160 countries worldwide.
“With the introduction of Unlimited Together, it is easier and more affordable than ever for our customers to call their loved ones and talk as long as they want,” said Rob Miller, Verizon’s vice president of marketing.

OR google voice lets you call from your smartphone to most western european countries as low as .01 per minute. That is approx. $432 to talk on the phone every minute of every day for a 30 day month to someone overseas.. Cheaper than rent!
