Turn Off That iPhone Flashlight Without Even Using The Control Center [iOS Tips]

Flashlight Off

I don’t know about you, but I’ve found the included Flashlight–along with the ease of access within the Control Center–to be a fantastic addition to my life. I always have my iPhone with me, which means I always have a quick flashlight with me. I use it to see in my over-crowded closet, behind the sound board at gigs, and into my shed during the dark hours of the winter up here in Alaska. It’s handy.

One thing, though, that’s kind of a pain is turning the thing off. Yeah, you can slide the Control Center up, then tap the flashlight icon to turn it off. But I’m usually trying to manage my phone along with whatever thing I needed from the shed or the closet and those couple of steps can seem like too much.

Reddit user youareboy points out another way to turn the flashlight off right from the lockscreen.

If you have your flashlight on and click the Home button to bring up your iPhone’s screen, simply tap on the camera icon to turn it off. It’s easy, no fuss, no muss. No Control Center.

Now when you’re digging through the attic for those holiday decorations with your iPhone flashlight, you can quickly turn it off with one tap and one hand, which really is what we all need when we’re managing all those boxes in the dark, right?

    getting out of apps was one area Johnny ives screwed the pooch on. i keep getting logged on to the music store trying to get the shuffle turned on while driving and I’m sorry i can’t find the back button at 60 mph
    in fact the back button on all the apps needs attention. (in my book the rule of thumb should be could you find it fast enough if you were at a pay phone in the rain }

    Why doesn’t apple just make any hardware button turn it off? (as opposed to the screen, which is hard to access with gloves on)?
