I’m madly in love with my 11-inch MacBook Air, but sometime I wish I had a little more screen real estate for it… an external display that was as portable as it is.
Toshiba’s new portable LCD, the creatively christened Mobile LCD Monitor, looks like just the thing: it’s an iPad-thin 14-inch unit, allowing you to add a 1366×768 secondary display driven entirely by USB, no AC adapter required.
Given how limited the number of USB ports on my Air, I could grumble a bit about how Toshiba’s offering doesn’t come with a Mini DisplayPort option. Even so, I love this little unit, right on down to its clever leather carrying case that, like most iPad folios, allows you to prop the display up for easy viewing.
If you’re interested, you can buy the Mobile LCD Monitor now for just $199.99.

Toshiba’s Website doesn’t mention OSX compatibility though…
I’ll wait for one with thunderbolt, but I hope I won’t be waiting too long.
Does it work with mac though? Im a TV producer and Editor, and do lots of editing while traveling so have been looking for something like this to give me a second monitor while on the road but, the toshiba site only says it runs on windows… think you could get one for a review and let us know if it works with our gear?
I believe this monitor uses DisplayLink technology. There are beta drivers available for Snow Leopard. You can read the forums at DisplayLink’s website to get an idea of performance/compatibility people are getting:

Or you could have just bought a 13″ MBA.
This is great for home/office, but since the concept requires schlepping a second slab in your go bag, it might as well be either model iPad: the $10 app “AirDisplay” makes it a second monitor via WiFi (and adds TOUCH, helpful for things like…everything). Looking like a douchebag aside, I’ve used it in coffee shops and airports, it’s very impressive.
I want to connect it to my iPhone!
It doesn’t quite look Ive-worthy
