We’re still waiting for our jetpacks, but at least today’s lightbulbs are properly futuristic. The best example of how far lighting has come is the ilumi A21 Bluetooth Smartbulb, a super-efficient LED light that sports features straight out of sci-fi. And right now, it’s going for nearly half its normal price, just $49 at Cult of Mac Deals.

The A21 can create millions of colors at any brightness, all programmable and controllable from a smartphone app. Imagine syncing the lights to the rhythms of your favorite music, waking up to sunrise effects accompanying your wake-up alarm, even having the lights flip on and off automatically as you migrate from room to room. That’s all awesome, but it’s just icing on the cake — the practical reason to switch to A21 bulbs is the life expectancy of 20 years, and a an energy efficiency that’s five times that of a regular bulb.

Light bulbs are a big part of our daily (er, nightly) life that’s long overdue for an upgrade. Bring your home or office one step closer to future-ready with the ilum A21 Bluetooth Smartbulb — at $49, it’s a massive 45% off the normal price.

I want two, but at $49 ea, it’s still WAY more than I’m willing to spend. Maybe two for $49, but not $49 each. I’ll keep waiting.

Unless these have an API that’s open and documented for developers plus homekit integration in the works, even at half the price they wouldn’t be worth it. I love smart gadgets, but if they only work with their own apps, they end up being not very smart at all.
