The Apple TV+ series The Afterparty has reportedly been cancelled after two seasons. The genre-mixing comedy starring Tiffany Haddish won’t get a third season.
Fans can still hope the show will move to another streaming service, though.
Apple TV+ calls off The Afterparty
The Afterparty was created by TV industry virtuosos Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Haddish plays a detective out to solve a murder. In season one, all the suspects were in a group of friends attending their high school reunion. In season two, the suspects were at a wedding. The twist is that each episode is seen through a different suspect’s perspective and shot in a different film genre.
Critics love the series. The original season got a 95% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes, and the sophomore outing earned 90% approval.
But average viewers were lukewarm. The show has a 75% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Exactly how popular it was is a secret only Apple TV+ knows, but the series never made it onto the top 10 lists of most-watch streaming shows from JustWatch or ReelGood. Many other Apple TV+ series have appeared on these lists.
Sony Pictures Television, the company producing The Afterparty, is seeking another streaming service for the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Of course, the first two seasons of the series are still available on Apple TV+.
