Legends of Tomorrow is the latest DC Comics-inspired bit of television from The CBS/Warner Television Network (The CW) to get a preview trailer, with quite a lot of awesome packed into its four minutes.

You’ve got a girl with wings and a past-lives complex (Hawkgirl), a deceased assassin (White Canary from Arrow), a pair of criminals (Heatwave and Captain Cold from The Flash), a goofy billionaire a ton of tech (The Atom, also from The Flash, played by Superman Return‘s Brandon Routh) and a combustible half a hero (Firestorm) played by venerable character actor, Victor Garber. Oh, and a Dr. Who favorite (Arthur Darvill) playing a time traveler (Rip Hunter) from the future.

So many variables, it could go either way, of course. Check out the promising trailer to make up your own mind.

The premise is all kinds of unwieldy, with immortal villain Vandal Savage traveling through time and preparing his massive army to take over the world. Like you do.

With a big cast like this, the joy will be in the way they interact, and how they come together to overcome odds that are stacked against them. Launching Legends of Tomorrow with successful shows Arrow and The Flash gives it a bit of an edge, which could bring in an audience already used to the style and substance of the comic book heroes on the television network.

Of course, getting too cheesy with dialogue or over-relying on relatively low-budget action scenes could really tank a show with this much potential.

Here’s hoping Legends of Tomorrow continues the smart work we’ve seen in The Flash and Arrow. The show is “coming soon” to the CW network.

The Atom is from The Arrow, not The Flash. He’s made appearances on The Flash, but his base show is Arrow.
