What It Is: The Bubble Slider case is a distinctive hard shell from Hard Candy Cases that’s saved my iPhone 4 on several occasions now.
Why It’s Cool: When I show people my iPhone 4, they often spend as much time admiring the Bubble Slider case as the device itself.
It’s also very distinctive. Not everyone likes the bubble design, but most do. I really like it. It feels good in my hand and it makes my iPhone look different from everyone else’s iPhone.
It doesn’t add too much bulk, and the bottom easily slides off to allow the iPhone to dock. With the bottom off, the case is compatible with most iPhone accessories I’ve tried, with the exception of TomTom’s Car Kit.
I don’t normally go for cases. I prefer my iPhone au naturel, but Hard Candy’s Bubble Slider is a well-made, well-designed case that’s saved my iPhone on several occasions. Let’s hope Apple offers the Bubble Slider as part of its iPhone 4 Antennagate settlement: Steve Jobs said Apple will be providing free thrid-party cases as an alternative to Apple’s Bumper.

He also reported from almost every Macworld Expo in the late ’90s and early ‘2000s, including, sadly, the last shows in Boston, San Francisco and Tokyo. Before joining Wired, Leander was a senior reporter at the legendary MacWeek, the storied and long-running weekly that documented Apple and its community in the 1980s and ’90s.
