Thank You, Steve Jobs.

We all reacted with surprise and disbelief today as we heard the news you were resigning as CEO of Apple. Anyone who follows Apple in even a cursory fashion knows that you have not been well, so the news was not entirely unexpected. But still quite sudden, and reaction has been swift around the world.

Few people have been as influential and as iconic as you have during your career. From the Apple II to the Macintosh, NeXTSTEP to Mac OS X, the iPod, iPhone and the iPad, few people have brought more innovation to the world and touched the lives of so many people. You and Apple have changed the face of personal computing many times over. This has not always been uncontroversial – and we have not always agreed – but nearly everyone can appreciate the impact of the achivements.

Many words will be written about what your stepping down means, how much the stock price will be affected, and what this means for Apple’s future. I suppose we shall see – as you will too, with your continued involvement as Chairman of the Board. As you note, Apple’s most innovative days may yet be to come.

But for now: thank you, Steve. For daring to dream, and bring your vision to the world. For not being afraid to make changes, teaching us to Think Different, and being Insanely Great.

From all of us at Cult of Mac, we wish you well, and the best of health.

Yeah, all those Chinese families of dead workers at Foxconn are really sad now.

Got chills reading this, and can’t imagine where the company will go without him at the head of it all.  But, here’s to the future of an incredible company, and to the career of one of the most influential people ever.

Adding a little note here: Thank you so much for the iPad. I don’t know how many lives it has transformed and in what ways, but here’s a close one to me: my brother. He has severe autism and had few interests until he discovered the iPad. Since then, he is more independent, has a longer attention span, and is overall happier. Same goes for the iPhone. Thank you, and best of luck.

By the way guys, well-written letter. :)

I’ve been an Apple user since I was a kid. I was only around 8 years old when I got my first performa in 1993. I’ve been a proud mac user and and Apple costumer since then! Steve Jobs have had a big picture in why I have stuck with Apple because of what he has accomplished!

I brought my first mac about 2 years ago just as I got out of hospital with a cancer scare. I was so fascinated with everything on that Mac that I spend endless hours during my recovery reading, creating and exploring. I really believe that it helped me get better by keeping my mind of things and at the same time it opened up a new world to me.

Today I am back at work, with my MBP on my desk. I have since captured endless memories with my iPhones camera, written down endless thoughts using pages, watched my children roar with laughter twisting their faces using Photo Booth and produced some of my finest work using iWork.

Your products have made a difference

Thanks for being different Steve,……. keep healthy.

This brought a tear to my eye. Especially the penultimate sentence – “For not being afraid to make changes, teaching us to Think Different, and being Insanely Great.”

  26. baby_Twitty says:

    Thank you, Steve.

  27. Richardgwright says:

I too went through cancer surgery last year. When I was diagnosed (and sick of crappy Dell laptops) I gave myself a MBP as a gift. It was the first Mac I used in 20+ years. I was hooked. As I got better, I have greatly appreciated the innovation and stability of Apple products. Good luck Steve and thanks for bringing me back…

  30. Jinorasa says:

    Thank you very much, Steve.

  31. Ed_Kel says:

I used my first Mac about a year ago and can say that I have never been more excited to use a computer in the past year than I have my entire life. My iMac has changed the way I look at technology. It has undoubtedly inspired my life in every way possible. From sticking to financial budgets to becoming an aspiring Cocoa programmer; it has done it all. When you look forward to using a computer like I do my iMac, you begin to look for different things to do; from being more productive to perfecting my procrastination with addicting apps like Angry Birds. If it wasn’t for your vision, Mr. Jobs, I wouldn’t be the person that I am today.

I have spent countless hours trying to convert my friends to Apple. I have posted numerous times on Facebook about my privilege to experience “computing bliss”. I vow to not only support Apple by buying products, but to also continue to convert skeptics and criticizers to begin computing and consuming content as blissfully as the rest of us.

    Cheers, Jobs! Best wishes.

  32. Mike says:

Thank You SO Much Steve for everything you did.
I can’t live a day without using my iPhone and my Mac.

  33. Panfilo11 says:

This is my first comment on any post and PROBably my last ! Steve Jobs! What a pity for mankind. His is a unique mind!

  34. Lou says:

Steve, you have revolutionised the way we all communicate, always with the intent of making it accessible to everyone no matter their degree of technical knowledge. Such an amazing and breath taking legacy to be proud of. I love watching the surprised look of staunched PC users so rapidly embrace the ease and beauty of MACs and all the related technology – once they allow themselves a moment of weakness – such joy :)  Focus your energy on getting better and look after yourself – the world needs you!

  35. Al says:

Love you and praying for you Steve
