Here’s the video to that “Steve Jobs” rap song that hit the Internets last month.
It’s got a few things that might not be safe for work – mainly rapper Supreme General who wrote and performs the song in various states of undress with obligatory crotch grabbing and too many obscenities to count. (Not that I didn’t try to count the obscenities – I’m like that.)
But it’s got that awesome copyright-disputed silhouette of Steve in the opening and Supreme General does regale us with a shot of himself brandishing an iPhone. So there’s that.
And the pertinent lines (at the very end):
“That’s why it never bothers me when niggas copy all my moves….
My competition’s hollow, my products set the standards for the rest of y’all to follow.
Steve Jobs.”
Kind of a nice break from the hagiographic approach. Jobs might have appreciated that.

By what twisted definition is this a “tribute” to Steve Jobs?
Because like every genre of music, the majority of rappers sold out in the early 2k’s and sound exactly the same. I blame the “Yeah…” on the dirty south rise in rap music. I barely listen to what can be considered new music because most of it just sucks today, its all lost meaning, replaced by cheap gimmicks and copy cat acts that follow a formula to success.
AWFUL! What are you thinking? This has nothing to do with Apple or Steve Jobs…. it’s just an ignorant and arrogant song over an uninspired track featuring braggadocio and pointless vulgarity. For the sake of your good name, take it down!
My god…thats one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard….and I’m quite sure Steve Jobs would concur. The only good part was the very last line. Otherwise, total crap, and I listen to hip-hop.

Ok! I wasn’t going to say anything before but after reading the slew of needless hate on my song, I feel the need to defend myself. 1st point, I thought it’d be obvious considering it was featured on this very site well before he passed but the song is a poetic juxtopostion between myself & Mr. Jobs NOT a tribute song!!! More specifically, it’s a personified double entendre, with myself at the center & tied together through our mutual love 4 putting our hearts into & innovating our respective fields! 4 those who don’t know, that means if Steve were a rapper he would’ve approached it the same way I do & vice versa if I were a programmer as we both share the same views on innovation & pushing things 4ward. Hence the line: “Substance permeates thru me, my competitions hollow… And my products set the standard for the rest of y’all to follow!!!”. There are many others throughout the song that show the same correlation but assuming your not a fan of hip hop (& you simply can’t be if you think the song isn’t good!) you wouldn’t care to find them anyway! 2nd even if you don’t like it, all you can do is respect the fact that I respect this man enough to make a song praising his greatness! I know most rappers give you the impression that we’re all dumb , but I strongly admonish you 2 NOT place me with those guys, as my lyrics *Cursing Included* obviously put me on a different level.. But then again… You probably don’t like rap & wouldn’t understand anyway smh

Since you seem to want to talk about it, this is some honest feedback from a fan of hip-hop and rap. I am part of your would-be audience, so don’t dismiss me as a ‘hater’ who ‘doesn’t get it’. I am a fan, and this song isn’t good.
I look for excellence and artistic honesty. And let’s be real here: this song has NOTHING to do with the greatness of Steve Jobs. It is ALL ABOUT YOU. It’s simply about YOUR alleged greatness. It references a great man, then says “Oh yeah, and I’m great too”. Go ahead and throw Obama, Jay-Z, Einstein and Descartes in the title of your song. If they are great, then you must be great too.
