While Apple reportedly readies its first foldable iPhone for 2026, Samsung is aiming higher. On December 2, 2025, it unveiled its first tri-folding device, the aptly named Galaxy Z TriFold.
“Through years of innovation in foldable form factors, Galaxy Z TriFold solves one of the mobile industry’s longest-standing challenges — delivering the perfect balance between portability, premium performance and productivity all in one device. Galaxy Z TriFold now expands the boundaries of what’s possible for mobile work, creativity and connection,” said Samsung’s mobile division CEO TM Roh.
A phone with three folding screens
Samsung pioneered the foldable smartphone market, with its Galaxy Z and Flip lineup leading the way. Now, the company is again redefining the segment with the Galaxy Z TriFold.
As the name indicates, this is a tri-folding device with an inward-folding design. It unfolds twice to transform from a phone into a tablet with a 10-inch display. Samsung says it has ” precisely engineered” the Armor FlexHinge for easy opening and closing.
There’s also an auto-alarm function that will alert users if they try to fold the device the wrong way.
When fully unfolded, the Galaxy Z TriFold only measures 3.9mm. Yet, it packs high-end hardware, including a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a 200MP primary camera and a 5,600mAh battery.
Samsung claims to have placed the three-cell battery in each of the three folding panels for balanced weight distribution and power delivery.
The star of the show, the 10-inch folding screen, uses a new display technology that allows it to fold twice. And that converts it into a pocketable phone. For improved durability, the shock-absorbing display layer features a reinforced overcoat.
To take full advantage of the extra screen space, Samsung will allow you to run up to three apps side-by-side.
High-end internals to match
Besides the inner 10-inch folding display, the Z TriFold features a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED cover screen. It can hit a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, while the internal display can reach 1,600 nits.
Other specs include a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP 3x optical rear camera and a 10MP f/2.2 selfie camera on the cover and main screen each. The tri-fold device will come in two storage configurations — 512GB and 1TB — with 16GB RAM as standard.
The Galaxy Z TriFold launches in South Korea on December 12, 2025. Its availability will then expand to China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE and the US in the coming months.
