Apple’s next iPhone could be more powerful and arrive in limited numbers as soon as April, according to Tuesday reports. Although no name was leaked, the new handset would include a dual-core processor, an OLED display, improved graphics and a better camera.
Korean carrier KT will begin offering the fourth-generation iPhone in April to corporate customers as part of a “litmus test,” The Korean Times reports. The newspaper, quoting a “high-ranking KT executive”, said the handset would be distributed locally in June. Apple traditionally has unveiled new iPhones in late June or early July.
Apple and KT reached “a broad consensus to introduce the advanced models as early as possible,” the publication quoted the unnamed executive. When the iPhone began sales in South Korea, Apple sold 60,000 handsets.
The report also suggests the new iPhone would be powered by ARM’s Cortex-A9 processor, offering speeds of 2GHz or more for the handset. Last week we reported that Apple was buying components for a flash camera, a move that would level the playing field with Google. Both the Nexus One and Motorola’s Droid smartphones sport camera phones with flash.
Another report from France indicates the new phone could arrive in May. Citing “several industry source,” Challenges.fr said a new Apple handset could appear in early May. The publication speculated the rush is designed to blunt any challenge by the Nexus One or the spate of smart phones powered by Google’s Android mobile operating system.
