Capcom brought Resident Evil 3 to Mac, iPad and iPhone on Tuesday. The latest AAA game to arrive on Apple’s platforms, the 2020 survival horror title lets players use a variety of weapons to fight zombies.

Resident Evil 3 remakes a classic

Capcom calls the new Resident Evil 3 a “reimagining” of the 1999 game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. In addition to significantly improved graphics, the plot and even the ending have been revamped. The goal is to make it fun even for those who played the original.

”Powered by Capcom’s RE ENGINE, this vivid reimagining of the original game delivers action-packed gameplay and bone-chilling visuals with detail and fidelity that can only be realized by today’s current technology,” says the developer.

As for the plot, it “follows S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine in her desperate journey to escape the viral outbreak spreading through Raccoon City,” according to Capcom. “The game delivers a unique strain of survival horror based on the fear of being pursued by a relentless force, the Bio Organic Weapon known as Nemesis.” If you’re interested in Apple’s latest innovations, check out the newest AirPods 4 in this Spike Jonze short film.

For those unaware, that means zombies. Lots of them. It’s up to players to survive and triumph.

The game launched on other platforms several years ago, where it earned generally high praise. “Resident Evil 3 is another killer remaster from Capcom,” wrote IGN. “Raccoon City has been recreated in stunning detail, peppered with realistically abandoned spaces, charming in-game advertising, and devastating environmental storytelling, while labyrinthine level design full of challenging nasties makes exploring a delight.”

It does draw criticism for being completely playable in a few hours. Fortunately, there’s a 67% discount available for Mac, iPad and iPhone users until April 16, bringing the cost down to only $9.99. Players can unlock all in-game rewards for an additional $1.99.

Also, the initial part of Resident Evil 3 can be played for free. Only those enjoying it have to make an in-app purchase to finish the game.

Cross-platform fun

The iPhone and iPad port includes customizable touch controls. And this includes a brand-new Auto Fire feature, offering the option to automatically fire weapons after aiming at enemies for a short time. That said, Capcom recommends using an external game controller. All Apple platforms support these.

For iPhone gaming, Capcom’s latest offering requires an A17 Pro or A18 processor, which means the iPhone 15 Pro models or any of the iPhone 16 models. Any Mac or iPad with an M-series chip can handle it.

Save data is transferrable between iPhone, iPad and Mac enabling cross-progression whether at home or on the go.

Other AAA Capcom games for Mac, iPhone and iPad on sale

The game is obviously a sequel, and there are plenty of other games from the series already available for Mac, iPad and iPhone. That includes the recently released Resident Evil 2.

Other entries in the Resident Evil franchise are already playable on Apple devices.:

Even better, Capcom slashed prices on these fan-favorite games, with discounts up to 75% off. But don’t delay — the sale won’t last.

Apple wants to demonstrate the cutting-edge performance of the latest A-series processors for iPhone and also make “Mac gamer” into less of an oxymoron. That’s why it’s encouraging developers to port their top-tier games to all its devices. Capcom is participating enthusiastically.
