In an impressive display of gritty stamina and just sheer ol’ gabbyness, a teenager from Mudelein illinois, a small town just north of Chicago, has injured herself while texting; not because she was texting while operating a vehicle, but because she was texting too much — something in the order of 3,000-4,000 texts a month, depending on which figure from ABC’s story is accurate.
Yes, Annie Levitz, a 16-year-old with apparently hyperactive thumbs, texted so much she was diagnosed with carpal-tunnel syndrome and now faces surgery. But in an attempt to turn tragedy to triumph, Annie says she would be much better off with an iPhone: “I do think that since it’s touch, it won’t be as rough on my hands,” she tells ABC.
The odd thing is — according to a Nielsen Research figure included in the story — Annie’s texting frequency isn’t that far off from the average for teens of 3,146 per month. Do teens really text this much? Have any of our readers had trouble with carpal-tunnel syndrome because of it?
In any case, bravo, Annie — the Cult applauds your new taste in gadgets; we’re just not sure the iPhone will help your situation much. Although, we suppose speech-to-text apps like Dragon Dictation won’t hurt, either. lolz.
