Apple’s official Camera Connection Kit for iPad is pretty accommodating when it comes to sucking photos out of your digicam and into your iPad. Using the array of dongles, you can either suck content in through USB or just slap your SD card.

What about users stuck with that old stalwart standard, Compact Flash? Sure, you can slurp your pictures in by connecting your DSLR or video cam to your iPad 2 via USB, but what’s the fun in that when you can do it directly, thanks to this Compact Flash Card Reader for iPad.

The price is $30, which is the same as Apple’s official Camera Connection Kit costs, and comes with a built-in USB reader that can also suck in video and photographs from any thumb drive. If you’re looking to supplement your iPad with another photography-minded dongle, this looks like a good buy.

Well, I ordered one last week already. Sad thing is, nobody knows if it is actually able to read a CF with iOS 4.3. I have a lot of experience on card readers+CCK+CF and i strongly doubt it. Maybe they found the trick to supply the current or fake another device ID. Otherwise the gadget will be useless unless you have some really old and low power cards around.
Apple, please… either release a CF reader yourself or remove the current limitation. From my experience CF is still standard for serious photographers and you can actually download 64 GB of raws to the iPad without noticing battery drain.

Is this for real? Anyone know anything about this or any similar product?

Well, the payment is real ;-) So I guess I will receive some grams of plastic. IMO it cannot work if not someone figured out a magic trick out to increase the current or included a built in battery. The first one would mean faking an Apple device ID (don’t know if it is possible). But it obviously can be done. the real CCK offers officially just 20 mA measured at the USB port, BUT reads SDHC with the other adapter, which run up to 90 mA. Between those two adapters is certainly a difference. If anyone figured the deal out, it might be possible. The second alternative would mean to simply include a battery, which would last more or less forever. Read cycles do not require much energy, but it would have to be recharged from time to time. Nothing of both alternatives is mentioned, so i REALLY will be surprised to have it delivered.

Actually some SDHC cards are known to require far more power and Apple says they would work fine…
