This is who should have played Apple’s iPhone 6 event

Imagine this: Tim Cook walks out on stage to introduce a special musical act at the end of the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch event last month.

Instead of trotting out “aging Irish rockers,” though, imagine if the Foo Fighters came out. Then Zach Brown. And then they launched into the killer rendition of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” you can see below.

Imagine that.

Seriously, where else can you get a folk-country singer jammin’ with one of the most consistently rocking bands this side of Weezer, mashed up with a heaping helping of Sabbath?

I mean, if Letterman can do it, why not Apple? Sure, it’s not super indie, and all these guys are still aging rockers, but it’s a damn sight closer to relevance than U2 was. And I like U2.

Anyway, enjoy the music.

“Opinions are like assholes. Everybody’s got one and everyone thinks everyone else’s stinks.” U2 was a perfect choice… and I am a Foo Fighters fan too.

    No, Rob. No.

The poo biters would have been a lateral move

Author, I don’t think you know the relationship between Bono and Apple.

When did the Foo Fighters hire Richard Bransen as their drummer?

  6. D Ludwig says:

It’s spelled Zac. And he’s 36. Aging, my ass.

    But they didn’t.
It’s •really• time to get over this very old, very boring and very subjective issue.

•You• may think U2 is a “bunch of aging Irish Rockers”, but a lot of people… no… make that millions and millions of people (judging from some of the most massive album sales of all time) appreciate U2’s music and importance in the world of global social conscience. For more reasons than your opinion, U2 was the perfect choice. And correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t that event come and gone… like weeks ago? Let’s move on.

I know right? It’s like this LeFebvre person can’t think of anything else to write about. He’s definitely in the wrong profession. I would say he should go flip burgers but he’s probably not good at that either. Maybe he should just stay in his parent’s basement.

  8. Pad level says:

So you consider someone appearing on Letterman appeals to the key demographic 25-54 age group? Well, maybe the 45 to 54 age group. Same age group for U2.

  9. Harlemite says:

Yep. You may want to file this one under “Articles I Probably Should Not Have Written”.

    Just sayin’…

  10. Gwen says:

Why is this music fanboy post even here? I thought this was an Apple / technology site? Everyone has different musical tastes, seeing a good musical session doesn’t mean you should link it to an Apple story and force it down our throats like an unrequested U2 album!

Damn i’m glad apple choose U2 instead this outhor choice

Rob LeFebvre you are an incompetent journalist. You can’t think of anything else to write about can you? Go away.

  14. John Flud says:

Frankly I’m a traditional Country music fan. So I don’t give a crap about U2 or these guys. LOL (or for that matter any comments who reply to tell me I’m some hick. Damn right I am. :) I will say this though. Some people like U2 and/or these guys. and thats okay too. people like different kinds of music. celebrate diversity, I say.

  15. mike says:

I would really be happy if apple brings Tame Impala on stage

  16. Steven Miller says:

    This, Sir, was badass.

  17. Chuck McGinley says:

From below: “Rob LeFebvre is Cult of Mac’s Culture Editor.”

Oh Rob, you are such an enlightened hipster and bad ass with that photo. We all kneel in your presence oh enlightened culture savant.

Irony is, I like both bands but I’m not a douche pretend music snob.

  18. Andy says:

I completely agree, U2 was boring, this would’ve kicked ass!

  19. U2 Sucks, they have always sucked…Black Sabbath Rules. And I agree, this would have been an unbelievably better choice than those U2 fakers of a rock band. The only 1/2 way decent album U2 ever produced was Joshua tree, with only one 1/2 way decent song, the rest is pop fluff. I am a 54 year old lover of all music, but Black Sabbath Master of Reality was the first album I ever bought, then Pink Floyd…now a Floyd cover would have been good too.

    Y’all forgot about Dre!!!!!!

  21. Barrett Jasper says:

Keep it original. Let the REAL Prince of Darkness on the stage. Ozzy Osbourne.
