Greasy Teens, Rest Easy! You Will No Longer Be Ripped Off By Bogus Acne Fighting Apps!

Teenagers have been known to go to extreme lengths to get rid of their zits… everything from slathering their face in a quivering mask of Clearasil each night to scrubbing their visages in the ground up pits of apricots.

Rubbing an iPhone all over their greasy little faces, though, in the hopes that an app they downloaded will help zap their zits? That’s just desperate, but from now on, the FTC will no longer let unscrupulous app developers prey upon our nation’s zitheads. Hurrah!

According to an official announcement, the developers of so-called acne cure apps such as AcneApp and Acne Pwner will no longer be able to sell their apps on the iTunes App Store or the Android MarketPlace.

Both apps were basically just scams: for a couple bucks, vesuvial teens were told they could cure acne just by exposing their pimples to light shining from their iPhones’ screens.

As if. Come on, kids… everyone knows the only way to make your acne better is the good ol’ eye watering squeeze.

I wonder why Apple approved this app

  2. Cynic says:

Seeing as many “alternative” medicines are just as effective as these apps, I don’t see the point in banning the apps. Some people get healed by placebo effects, and some people are just plain dumb and pay for stuff like this…

  3. MacFreek says:

Given Steve Jobs personal battle with cancer Apple should have been more circumspect about approving “health” apps that have absolutely no scientific validity, and are entirely deceptive and fraudulent.
