NY Times, Newsday Offer Free Access to Storm-Related News

For those in the NYC area, staying on top of Hurricane Irene-related developments on an iDevice just became a little easier as the two major NYC newspapers, the New York Times and Long Island’s Newsday, have dropped their paywalls for Irene-related news.

In the case of the NYT, it means readers without subscriptions will still be able to access content tweeted from the NYT’s new @NYTLive Twitter feed, an ephemeral feed that looks like it might be used for links to urgent breaking news, online and on  the iPad and iPhone.

Newsday.com‘s approach is to make all Irene-related content free through their website and iOS app, which works on both iOS platforms.

Also of note is that Zinio is making available several issues in their catalog free to read here.
