The new Opera Air web browser brings meditation and mindfulness features directly to users, the Norway-based browser developer said Tuesday. The new browser’s approach to surfing the web combines Opera’s established browser technology with wellness tools typically found in dedicated meditation apps. Perhaps more traditional browsers like Safari and Chrome will follow suit.
“The web is beautiful but it can be chaotic and overwhelming,” said Mohamed Salah, Opera’s senior director of product. “We decided to look at science-backed ways to help our users navigate it in a way that makes them feel and function better.”
New Opera Air browser offers wellness tools
The new Opera Air browser appears to go with a less-is-more, “minimalist Scandinavian design” featuring frosted glass accents, according to the company. A floating sidebar houses Opera Air’s signature mindfulness features, making them easily accessible without disrupting the browsing experience.
This innovative approach to web browsing seems to reflect a growing awareness of digital wellness. It brings meditation app features directly into one of the most frequently used computer applications. For Mac users looking to create a more balanced and mindful digital experience, Opera Air provides an intriguing alternative to traditional browsers like Safari.
Central to Opera Air’s wellness approach are two core features: “Take a Break” and “Boosts.”
Take a Break

The Break feature includes a visual reminder system where three lines in the sidebar gradually fade, signaling when it’s time to pause and reset. Users can choose from various break activities, including guided breathing exercises, neck stretches, meditation sessions and full body scans.
And users can customize wellness breaks to last anywhere from three to 15 minutes, allowing users to tailor their mindfulness practice to their schedule.

The Boosts feature introduces binaural beats technology to the browsing experience. This scientifically-backed approach plays slightly different frequencies in each ear, creating a perceived third frequency that can influence brain activity. Users can select from various preset options designed to enhance creativity, improve focus, or promote relaxation.
These audio sessions can be combined with ambient sounds and background music, with durations ranging from 15 minutes to continuous play.
New Opera Air browser comes with ad blocker, VPN and AI
Mac users will find familiar Opera features integrated into Air, including a built-in ad blocker and free VPN service. The browser also provides access to Aria, Opera’s ChatGPT-powered AI assistant, maintaining functionality while promoting digital wellness.
Opera Air joins the company’s existing browser lineup alongside the standard Opera browser, Opera One and gaming-focused Opera GX. The new browser is available as a free download for Mac users, offering a new ways to maintain mindfulness and reduce stress while navigating the internet.
