I have the 2011 version of Office and I have found it to be incredibly bad. I wanted to use Outlook, because I was having some issue with Mac Mail. I spent hours working with their tech support and ultimately gave up on Outlook. Just last night, I saved a file in Word into a folder and the document was there, but none of the changes I made were there, so I had to redo it. I’m more familiar with Word and Excel, but I think I may try Pages and Numbers…to just get away from this Microsoft thing.
That said, I did install these updates, so maybe it will be better. I’m just not a Microsoft fan.
Where’s the Lion support for full screen and gestures???
nice article…
I just got a $829.99 iPåd2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for.
I use BÏDFiRsT. COM
Just a warning, Numbers is not a program made for any heavy duty spreadsheets. It goes slow and freezes up when you have a lot of columns and formulas. If you’re looking for a good spreadsheet program, I suggest OpenOffice.
Anyone else get an error trying to update? http://cl.ly/3w101T2O3T1r2y1q1…
When I was in college I started using Microsoft Office 2008 because at that time, I ha d recently purchased my first mac and was familiar with their apps in Windows, so I thought I would give it a shot. At the time it was fairly decent so I really didn’t mind using it for school work and such. After the release of Office 2011, I used Word maybe 2 or 3 days and I couldn’t stand it. I don’t know why they went ahead and rearranged everything.
So I thought what the heck, I’ll give Apple’s own iWork suite a shot and let me tell you, it is a much better set of apps. When you open pages, it loads almost instantly, and everything is organized neatly so you can access it very easily. Now I haven’t messed around with keynote all that much, but just playing around with it a little bit, it seems very similar to powerpoint.
Now as far as the problems whitensn0w seems to have with Numbers I have not experienced any of those. The app seems very quick and responsive and no matter how many spreadsheets, there is no lag whatsoever. So I’m wondering maybe if it’s just his Mac.
Lastly one thing I forgot to mention was the fact that in any of the applications in the iWork suite can be saved in Office formats, so there’s no problem say if you create a presentation in Keynote, you can export that into Powerpoint and even edit the file in Powerpoint as well. Making it very easy to transfer files between both.
Good input. I’ve always thought, seemingly wrongly, that it’s Microsoft world and I need to use these Office programs even though I can do the same thing in iWork. At least for me the 2011 version as noted is awful. This is a good wake up call for me. Thanks for the input.
Update for Office 2008 is from a 12.1.0 version… what if I have 12.2.1…?
12.3.1 has some real major bugs. It hangs all the time and crashes daily.
