With Windows 8, Microsoft is making a strong push for the tablet market, in a last-minute attempt to catch up with the wild success of the iPad. While its clear that the Redmond based company has a long road ahead of it to even catch up with the first iPad, we may see some dramatic progress on Monday, seeing that Microsoft has announced an event to be held in L.A. about Windows tablets.
As of now, we know very few details about the event, but it’s clear that Microsoft will show off what will likely be near clones of the iPad running Windows RT, the ARM version of Windows 8.
Of course, no matter how much manufacturers attempt to rip off the iPad, it’s the iCloud and iTunes ecosystems that drive customers to Apple’s platform, and that’s something that Microsoft likely can’t compete with. So far, Windows 8 is looking like no more than a enhanced version of Windows Phone 7 running atop the traditional Windows desktop environment.
Regardless of how good the hardware is that Microsoft shows off, it’ll be the software that really determines if these new Windows tablets can give the iPad a run for its money, or if they’ll end up being forgotten just like the countless Android tablets that have been released over the past couple years.

OK, Apple has got iCloud and iTunes, but Microsoft has Windows.
LoL These will be no iPad clone.
What an unbiased analysis. Thank you!
Better than the US Army <– aggressive
by default any tablet computer released after ‘ipad’ is going to be a ‘clone’, all it means is that apple is not alone, it never was, and it’s not as unique as people are led to believe.
Was going to say the same thing. CoM, ok we get it we all love Mac, but could you please try to write your articles so that you don’t come off as flaming Apple sheep?
What a biased report.
I believe the biggest hurdle Microsoft has to overcome is defining the Metro interface.
