Microsoft To Unveil Army Of iPad Clones On Monday?

By

Windows-8-drivers3

With Windows 8, Microsoft is making a strong push for the tablet market, in a last-minute attempt to catch up with the wild success of the iPad. While its clear that the Redmond based company has a long road ahead of it to even catch up with the first iPad, we may see some dramatic progress on Monday, seeing that Microsoft has announced an event to be held in L.A. about Windows tablets.

As of now, we know very few details about the event, but it’s clear that Microsoft will show off what will likely be near clones of the iPad running Windows RT, the ARM version of Windows 8.

Of course, no matter how much manufacturers attempt to rip off the iPad, it’s the iCloud and iTunes ecosystems that drive customers to Apple’s platform, and that’s something that Microsoft likely can’t compete with. So far, Windows 8 is looking like no more than a enhanced version of Windows Phone 7 running atop the traditional Windows desktop environment.

Regardless of how good the hardware is that Microsoft shows off, it’ll be the software that really determines if these new Windows tablets can give the iPad a run for its money, or if they’ll end up being forgotten just like the countless Android tablets that have been released over the past couple years.

OK, Apple has got iCloud and iTunes, but Microsoft has Windows.

Do you get my point? Windows 8 with Metro is a tablet – for fun, for consuming content, entertainment and stuff, but it is also a full windows platform with desktop – for work. You can switch between those two modes easily. Tablets with Win8 will be a huge success in buiseness surface first of all. That is my opinion as a huge fan of all gadget that are out there :)

LoL  These will be no iPad clone.

I applaud Microsoft for going in a new direction with Metro.  It’s really quite a good interface for a phone.  I can see it translating well to a touch tablet.  I’m not yet sold on Windows 8, though.. two interfaces?!  How weird!  But following Apple’s lead, Windows RT might actually work.  One can only hope for a little innovative competition to drive the development of my preferred device, the iPad, to even greater heights.  Android has sure been a bust!

by default any tablet computer released after ‘ipad’ is going to be a ‘clone’, all it means is that apple is not alone, it never was, and it’s not as unique as people are led to believe.

Was going to say the same thing.  CoM, ok we get it we all love Mac, but could you please try to write your articles so that you don’t come off as flaming Apple sheep?

    1. We don’t know what they’re announcing on Monday, this is a rumour and a very faint one at that.
    2. Don’t count out Microsoft, they are making great strides with unifying their ecosystems with Xbox, Win8 WinPho7 and they are doing a very nice job of it.
    3. Another player in the market just makes things better for us customers because it pushes competition

    What a biased report.

Have you even used the Metro interface?  Nothing, repeat NOTHING, like Apple’s IOS.  They created something original, well thought out, and beautiful.  I’m an Apple fan through and through, and even I can commend Microsoft on a job well done with their new UI.  Stop hating and congratulate them on a job well done.  A bit of competition is good for Apple, they are always at their strongest when their back’s are against the wall.

I believe the biggest hurdle Microsoft has to overcome is defining the Metro interface.

It’s abundantly clear that Apple products, since the beginning, usually cater to artists and creators. The central message of the Retina Display technology is based on photography and video editing but with the enhanced display it’s also great for sharper text when reading as well as gamers that want high fidelity gaming on the go.
But what about Metro? I don’t see a push to market this to photographers and video editors and it’s certainly not an ideal setup for business productivity. While I’m sure they’ll integrate Xbox Live I don’t see a big push for gaming either (you could say the same about Windows Phone 7 which, with XBL integration, should’ve been Microsoft’s backdoor to mobile gaming).
So who is this for exactly? Who should be standing in line to get a WinRT tablet (horrible name by the way) when they starting hitting Best Buys later this year?
