Microsoft will finally unveil Office for iPad at a media event on March 27th, according to The Verge and ZDNet. The event will mark Satya Nadella’s first public appearance as Microsoft’s new CEO.

The Verge is saying that the iPad version of Office will look a lot like the poorly-reviewed iPhone version that was released last summer:

We understand the iPad variant of Office will be similar to the iPhone version, and will require an Office 365 subscription for editing. We’re told that document creation and editing is fully supported for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps. Overall, the interface and features are expected to be similar to the existing iPhone version.

The iPad app will be released before Microsoft gets its own touch-first version of Office for Windows out the door, according to ZDNet.

It has been recently reported that Microsoft has finished making Office for iPad and that the decision to launch is in the hands of Nadella. A new version of Office for Mac is expected to launch in the coming months as well.

So it’ll be nothing that people actually want. Microsoft doesn’t know what it’s doing here.

Why should I care? All of my computing devices are from Apple. If I wanted to use Office, I would own a Windows PC.
