Going large on M5 iPad Pro storage also scores premium performance

Those who want the best performance out of their new M5 iPad Pro need to opt for at least a terabyte of storage. That’s because paying out for additional capacity also brings a faster version of the processor and more RAM. There’s no way to configure the tablet with these features other than to choose a version with plenty of storage.

Plus, only the priciest variants can add nano-texture glass.

Buying more M5 iPad Pro storage also gets faster chip, more RAM

Buying a Mac like the new M5 MacBook Pro involves choosing the processor, RAM and storage capacity. That’s not how it works with an iPad — the choice of configurations is much more limited.

When ordering the newly announced M5 iPad Pro, choosing the screen size and storage capacity are nearly the only configuration options. That’s because the amount of storage determines the chip variant and amount of RAM.

The new M5 processor is available with up to 10 CPU cores — four performance cores and six efficiency — but getting the top-of-the-line version requires ordering an iPad Pro with 1TB or 2TB of storage. Those who instead opt for the 256GB or 512GB variants get an M5 with one less performance core. The 10-core GPU remains unchanged.

Plus, the variants with 256GB and 512GB of storage get 12GB of unified memory — a boost over their predecessors — but paying for additional storage nets more RAM: 16GB.

The final difference is that only the 1TB and 2TB variants of the M5 iPad Pro can be configured with nano-textured glass. This specially coated glass helps reduce unwanted reflections.

M5 iPad Pro price

The base model 2025 iPad Pro includes 256GB of storage, an M5 with nine CPU cores, 12GB of unified memory, and a price of $1,299. Upgrading to 512GB of storage increases the cost to $1,499 but makes no other changes.

Configure Apple’s latest premium tablet with 1TB of storage, and the computer comes with an M5 with ten CPU cores, 16GB of unified memory, and a price of $1,899. Go with 2TB, and the price hits $2,299, but the chip and RAM remain the same.

Choosing the nano-textured glass on the 1 TB or 2 TB variants adds $100 to the cost.
