Kim Kardashian’s stupid iOS game could make $200 million this year

By

iOS users have proven they have an uncanny ability to waste obscene amount of coin on silly in-app purchases, and the latest tech-titan to cash in on all that spending is none other than reality star Kim Kardashian.

Kim launched her first iOS game at the end of June to surprisingly great reviews, but the bigger surprise is the mountain of cash Kardashian and developers Glu Mobile are about to make off of all the fans flocking to download a piece of Kim’s Hollywood life.

Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, the iOS video game that teaches users how to climb through the social ranks of Hollywood, one A-list date at a time, is expected to make an ungodly $200 million by the end of 2014, reports Bloomberg, anchored by in-app purchases for new clothes, handbags, and energy stars that make sure you can ace those sexy virtual photo shoots and club appearances.

Since its release on June 25th, Kim’s game has quickly risen to top of the App Store charts, where it currently holds the #2 spot on the top free apps. The game’s success has caused shares of Glu Mobile to shoot up 42 percent in the last few weeks, as the company also has the #3 free app on iOS, Dino Hunter, which was released last Thursday.

There’s no word on how big a cut Kim will take from the projected $200 million in revenue, but if even a fraction of its users are spending $500 to keep up with the Kardashian, it looks like the reality star’s earnings will certainly top the all-time high of $28 million she brought home in 2013.

$200 million for Glu Mobile = $85 million for Apple.

    • Christopher Leandro Trauco says:

Apple only takes 30% from in-app purchases… So, $60 million, but this article doesn’t specify whether they are considering that when calculating these totals or not. Good point though!

You call it “stupid.” Show me your $200 million dollar app.

    Doesn’t change what she is.

Like her anatomy, it’s all in the volume…

  5. Shawn Behnam says:

Can you make a sextape in the game?

  6. Barrett Jasper says:

I REALLY don’t get the fascination of her or Paris Hilton. They are both famous because of nothing more than money. Neither can act, sing, or have any talent and neither is what I’d consider “beautiful” either. Dumb.

What do you expect? Regular people like mindless games that don’t require intelligence.

Kim’s 2D game avatar has more depth than the real Kim…

Not quite getting the whole Kim Kardashian “thing” (aside from being awed by her only two visible assets), I conclude that $200 million is just stupid money for a stupid game that some smart person came up with.

This and Candy Crush proof that women especially are susceptible to the freemium/IAP scheme.

    • BusterH says:

ummmm…. i’m sure their are plenty. if not more, examples for males

      • Peter R. says:

Sure there are, only women usually don’t play videogames, but for some reason they do play these games en masse. My point is: it would be interesting to research the psychology of women vs men when it comes to IAP’s.

The article should have a link to the game. Or may some screenshots from it instead of her.

Well good for her, cause girls will spent money on this no matter how hard you try to stop them. They will always want to be Kim Kardasians…….

lol, this world is so amazing, cause we got people who complaint us playing games yet spent more money on a game about a celebrity….. and people will defend her and Glu Game Companies to dead, for fear them both being dead……..
