We’re all pretty excited about the upcoming release of the iPhone 6s, Apple’s latest and shiniest hardware. And it seems that some people are so excited about the new phone that it makes them forget a bunch of things — like what an original iPhone looks like.
Kimmel sent an interviewer out on the street, where he presented passersby with the original, 2007 iPhone, told them it was a demo version of the 6s, and asked them how the “new” phone looks to them. You can see the cringeworthy results in the video below.
The interviewees can’t get enough of the “new” gizmo, gushing about how small and sleek it is and declaring that “Apple has done it again.”
Obviously the Kimmel show edited this segment to only showcase the most hapless people they could find. I’d love to see the outtakes in which some savvy person points out that the thing is still running iOS 3. Or maybe someone tried to activate Siri, which didn’t appear until the iPhone 4s in 2011.
One person asks what the new features are on the iPhone 6s, and the mic holder says, “It’s got like a higher-resolution and a much better quality camera.” The bit about the camera is true, but while the original iPhone had a meager 480 × 320 resolution, the iPhone 6s will have the same 1334 x 750 screen as the current iPhone 6, which is about six and a half times as many pixels as the iPhone 1. And the iPhone 6s will feature a much-touted 12-megapixel camera, compared to the original’s modest 2.
Probably the lowest moment of the whole video comes when a woman pulls out her iPhone 6 Plus to compare the two models.
“Well, I think this is daintier,” she says, referring to the older phone. “It seems like the same weight, even though it’s distributed differently.”
In fact, iPhone 6s models will be 9 to 11 percent heavier than the current versions, possibly due to those improved cameras and a larger Taptic Engine force feedback system. We’ll have to wait until the inevitable teardown videos start dropping in a few weeks to know for sure.
Regardless, this bit shows how effective the power of suggestion can be. Or maybe it just proves that you don’t have to know what you’re talking about to get in front of a camera.
Update — 9/12, 4:48 a.m.: This post originally said that Siri first became available on the iPhone 4 instead of the 4s. We have corrected the error.

Sneaky vox pops. Naughty.
But can you tell the iPhone and the iPhone 3G(s) apart?
They’re obviously not very dedicated owners…
What’s a ‘dedicated owner’? They are just your usual owner: ill-informed, convinced by marketing, duped by hype into spending more than they should for a phone.
a dedicated owner meaning somebody with some loyalty and a brain, anybody who fits the bill of a human being should be able to know that a phone with a 3.5 inch screen isn’t anywhere near new….
Siri came with 4S, not the 4
no?? she first appeared on the iPhone 4s. you may be thinking about voice control but that debuted on the iPhone 3GS.
The thing is though its fake, so the joke is on us.
This. Believing these skits makes Apple haters look foolish.
You can hope all you like that someone would notice it was an older version, but somehow I think you will be waiting along time.
The “Doh!” is strong with owners of these devices.

This is an example of why i don’t watch Late Night Talk Shows anymore. Just dumb.
I’m sure you could do the same thing with ANY technology product from any company and I’m sure they could get enough people from the street that would fall for it. Remember, they are only showing you the people that fell for it, they didn’t show the people that didn’t. Plus, they haven’t done the same thing with Android or Microsoft users, they’d probably be able to conduct the same joke and get enough people to fall for it. Plus, we don’t know how many people were told to say what they said ahead of time. It’s TV, and even “reality TV” is many times staged or produced to have a certain outcome. Don’t fall for their stupid crap. Kimmel is a second rate Talk Show host just trying to get attention and ratings. It’s almost like what some people in the media do to get clicks. Just mention Apple in the headlines and you’ll get a bunch of people reading it.
They probably selected Apple because they have most over-hyped products in the world.
I think they’re underhyped. Now the Samsung Galaxy line is what epitomizes “overhyped”.
Hmm… I am not convinced you comprehend the meaning of the term ‘over-hyped’.
If you owned one you would see why people hype the…I switched from android to ios and I am much happier.
now comes the part were you say “Actually I used to have one and it sucked, android is better.”
And I see a notification that you replied but knowing already what it said continued on with my life.
Good day sir
Another prove how much dumbasses are all the apple isheeps
Cute. And right back at you for thinking this is anything more than cherry picking 3 of the 50 people they interviewed simply for TV.
Oh come on. If you ask 1000 persons and 10 have no interest in the subject you can manipulate anything :-D
Maybe people like Apple and will purchase Apple products no matter what is because Apple is a proven entity. Apple products work and they work well. These people were fooled because they probably weren’t familiar with the original iPhone model. I’ve had every iPhone model since the iPhone 3G. I know they work because Apple has proven that they can create hardware and software that work in sync with one another. So you people who continue to hate on Apple because you are ignorant of how well these products perform can just go suck a lemon.
iPhone 3GS is still the most beautiful iPhone ever. This the people on the street havec onfirmed too. If Apple has never changed the design, but just the hardware, iPhones would be more great as they are today…..
All that demonstrates is that you can accomplish damn near anything with editing. I suspect it took them hours to find that many clueless individuals, and to be honest, some of them may well have been feigning ignorance just to make sure they made the cut.
Never cared much for Kimmel. A lot of his comedy is based on the stupidity of other people.
No it doesn’t. It makes you look foolish for thinking it says anything about iPhone owners. People will do anything to get on TV, even act like complete morons. Where’s the thousands others that knew it was an original iPhone?
So they’re not very observant, but maybe Apple should take note of a couple things. ~”It’s more compact and fits in your hand for those that don’t like dropping their phone.” Maybe not holding a skateboard is a good thing. (I personally hope they bring back a 5 size phone.) ~”The calendar app loads fast… It’s really snappy.” Maybe even with faster processors, software bloat has kept the phone slower than it could be… People’s reactions in these situations can be telling of underlying sentiment. Maybe bigger phones and bigger software is only partially a good thing.
My 6Plus screen size is infinitely more useful for getting things done than those tiny 4″ screens ever were, and it still easily fits in my pocket. The 6 screen is only 0.7″ larger, and hardly phablet sized for those that don’t think they want the Plus size screen. But I for one welcome out new large screened overlords.
Here is a method how it is possible to make 65 bucks each hour… After searching for a job that suits me for six months , I started making cash over this internet site and now I possibly could not be more satisfied.
