It seems that parts for at least one of Apple’s upcoming iPhones are surfacing every day. Today’s component is the stainless steel band that surrounds the new device, which is distinctly different than those currently built for the GSM and CDMA iPhone 4.
According to a tipster for 9to5 Mac, who goes be the name of SulfoDK, the stainless steel ‘antenna band’ that sits in the middle of the three above is destined for the iPhone 4S. As you’ll notice, it’s very similar to that currently fitted to the CDMA iPhone 4, but contains one distinctive new feature: it has a SIM card slot.
9to5 Mac does note that they are wary of these images:
It appears to simply be the current CDMA antenna with a SIM card tray cut out in a similar spot as the GSM iPhone 4 (and as such could be faked or prototyped fairly easily) . With the amount of advertising on these images and the easy in which it could be faked, we are wary.
However, the part seems to make a lot of sense. The CDMA iPhone built for Verizon contains a wireless chip that is capable of connecting to a number of different networks, but without a SIM card slot, it can only connect to Verizon. Once that SIM card slot is introduced, the CDMA iPhone instantly becomes the ‘world phone’ that we’ve been hearing about.
What do you think to these parts?
