Perplexity’s AI-powered browser, Comet, is now available on iOS. It features AI Comet Assistant, which can analyze a webpage to provide a quick summary or pull specific details.
A dedicated voice mode lets you ask questions instead of typing, and it works across all your open tabs.
AI-powered browsing comes to iPhone
Comet has been available on PC and Android for a while now. Compared to Chrome or Safari, it stands out as an AI-first browser, all thanks to the Comet Assistant.
It can summarize long articles, extract key points, and answer follow-up questions based on the content you’re viewing.
The new voice mode further builds on this idea. Instead of typing queries, you can simply speak and get a researched response instantly. Because it works across your open tabs, you can ask contextual questions about what you’re reading without switching apps or breaking your flow.
The same features are available in Comet for iOS.
Google search wins for mobile use
While Perplexity offers its own search engine, Coment on iOS sticks to Google as the default search engine. As the startup’s CEO explains on X, most mobile searches focus on navigating to a shop or restaurant. Google does a much better job here than Perplexity.
At one point, reports indicate Apple considered acquiring Perplexity to supercharge search. That alone should give you a fair bit of idea of the startup’s AI search capabilities.
You always have access to Comet Assistant, though, so you can invoke it on a Google search results page as well. That’s not it, though. You can ask Comet on iOS to do tasks on your behalf, like opening a specific calendar event, preparing the questions to ask at an upcoming meeting, etc.
Besides its AI-powered features, Comet for iOS features native ad blocking and background video playback.
Like Safari and Chrome, Comet for iOS syncs your browsing history, open tabs, and data across all platforms.
Comet lands on the iPhone just days after Perplexity announced the Mac mini-powered Personal Computer.
