And looks we nailed it. Siri’s not coming to the new iPad. Instead, you’re getting just voice dictation.
“Of course, we have our great software keyboard. We have a new key on the bottom — just tap it, speak into your iPad, and it’ll dictate what you have to say,” says Phil Schiller.
Nice, but since everyone was sure Siri was a lock, this is sure to be a disappointment. Looks like we were right, though: Apple won’t ship Siri on machines that can’t be guaranteed a persistent Internet connection.

One More thing…??
Makes since though!
How does this make sense?
“Looks like we were right, though: Apple won’t ship Siri on machines that can’t be guaranteed a persistent Internet connection.”
The iPad models with data plans have just as a persistent Internet connection as the iPhone 4S with a data plan.
Well then Apple should just stop making WiFi versions of their devices and just make 4G versions that’s it.
I hope not! I have a WiFi only iPad. If I need a data connection when I’m on the go, I’ll tether it to my phone’s hotspot. I don’t need to (and I won’t) pay for another data plan!
Why not? Why not have one device that has WiFi/4G and just drop the only WiFi line all together. You don’t HAVE to subscribe to a data plan.
Why not? Well, not everyone here lives in the US like you. I for one live in Japan and pay ¥6,500/month for a 100MB/s Fiber optic line to the net at home. I’m satisfied with that, and don’t want to pay for a wireless plan. Therefore, a WiFi only iPad, while not as liberating, is satisfactory for my needs. And if Mr. “sw3ngl1sh” serves as any indication, I am not alone.
The day we can get unlimited data at LTE speeds for $25 or so per month is the day I will of course supplement my land-line with a separate wireless contract. But I don’t expect to see that happen anytime soon.
Great assumption that I live in America, I actually live in Australia which isn’t as lucky as you for internet speeds.
So are you saying if Apple offered 3 iPads and not 6 iPads and those 3 iPads had both WiFi and 4G that you would be unsatisfied?
I will be satisfied when the price is right. That is exactly what I was trying to say in my previous post. Until then, a WiFi iPad is satisfactory, albeit not “ideal.” In this economy, one must consider the amount of cash in one’s wallet.
