iOS 9 adoption is continuing to limp slowly towards 100%. A couple weeks after we reported that iOS 9 adoption had “run out of steam” at 67%, it’s gained a few more percent points. But iOS 9 adoption still falls short of total.
According to Apple’s latest figures, roughly 70% of eligible iOS users are currently upgraded to the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system.
Those aren’t bad figures, especially compared to Android, where the highest percentage of devices (a mere 37.5%) run an OS only two years old. But it’s a small 3% uptick since two weeks ago.
That said? iOS 9 adoption is still moving faster than iOS 8 adoption (which took until late January to reach a mere 69%) and even iOS 7 (which didn’t reach 70% penetration – in North America alone! – until December 4th).
Still, Apple depends on users updating to the latest version of iOS to guarantee the security of the ecosystem as a whole. More devices running out of date versions of iOS equals more potential vulnerabilities. That’s why Apple wants to shore up the number of devices running iOS 9 or higher as soon as possible.

i think people learned the hard way what happens when you update last years or older model iphone to the latest firmware. it turns into a $700+ paperweight. and this is coming from someone who owned every single iphone since the 3G
I agree, I regret upgrading to the new IOS version on my 4S. Apple has to provide the option to go back to the IOS version that worked best for a specific phone model without having to jailbreak the phone.
Yes, I agree. People are becoming aware that every new update will slow down their device. However, I think that iOS 9 isn’t nearly as bad as other versions.

It must be like that. People upgrade, and the closer to 100% the slower it get’s.

A) Don’t care
B) Dont’t want to upgrade because of performance reasons etc

Version 8.4 here. We don’t need two search areas. The pull down on the home screen I like, the search to the left of the pages I don’t. Combine them in the pull down.

Otherwise my iPhone is running like a swiss army watch. If it’s not broke don’t fix it.
IOS 9 has been the most bug ridden release so far for me. Even now I still cannot send images via iMessage without having to try twice. Whoever does the QA / testing at Apple needs to be replaced.

Our house has 2 x iPhone 5, 1 x Iphone 5s, 2 iPads – not upgrading to 9 as each time we upgrade we loose battery life and performance slows down. Also things we rely on stop working. So un-Apple-like.
After 18 months of calls to Apple we STILL don’t have working shortcuts and numerous lost iCloud docs. As the saying goes: fool me once shame on me, fool me twice…
