The days of having a junk folder full of Apple-made apps you don’t want is finally coming to an end.
It appears that Apple made its first steps toward allowing iPhone and iPad users to delete stock apps today by making them available to download via the App Store.
The company didn’t announce the changes during its WWDC keynote, but after installing the first beta build of iOS 10, developers have discovered that apps like Maps, Contacts, Stocks, and others can now be deleted.
Here’s which apps are now on the chopping block:
Calculator
Calendar
Compass
Contacts
FaceTime
iTunes Store
Mail
Maps
Music
Notes
Podcasts
Reminders
Stocks
Tips
Videos
Voice Memos
Watch
Weather
In a new tutorial posted on its support site, Apple says that if you uninstall the Contacts app you won’t lose your contact information because it’s still stored in the Phone app. The News app will be removable in a new version of iOS 10.

Hopefully this will materialize in iOS10 but I have seen Apple enable it beta but shut it down before it’s released into the public domain.
So presumably you can set 3rd party apps as default, if you can delete major functions like email and calendar?
My question here is how disruptive would this be to their Siri proactive strategy?
Great! Bout fuckin time!
Deleting them is one thing. Setting another app as default is everything. Another half baked Apple solution?
And why can’t I delete Wallet, I don’t use it for anything?
months ago, on cultofmac, I commented that this was totally possible and Apple should let us delete unnecessary apps. People commenting couldn’t let my comment stand and they started questioning my intellect and coding abilities. I was told “it’s not as simple”, “there will be more bloat”, and that “I obviously do not code or write script”. Hmmm, so it seems it is that simple and bloat argument is not logical. Guess I do know about coding and scripting :) Gotta love commenters that hate on others and claim to be intellectually superior, LOL I think Apple will keep the ability to delete their apps. Removing it on the final build would be a HUGE mistake.
I think they’ll keep on the ability, especially if they’ve published tutorials and published them to the App Store. Whoever questioned your intellect should question their own, as there is no reason why this isn’t possible. I’m glad Apple have /finally/ listened to one of the biggest problems with their platform, though.
