Yesterday, Apple quietly updated the 16GB iPod Touch, adding a rear-camera to the base model device while dropping the price of the entire line by $30 to $50 each.

Was anything else new? To find out, the famed gadget vivisectionists at iFixIt ripped apart a new 16GB iPod touch.

Sadly, though, it doesn’t appear that much has changed. Giving their classic teardown treatment, iFixit discovered that the 16GB iPod touch is pretty much the same as the 32GB and 64GB models.

Now, all three devices have a 5 megapixel iSight cam. In fact, the only difference iFixIt could see inside the 16GB iPod touch when compared to its larger capacity brethren was that it was missing some tape around the headphone jack.

Overall, the device rated the same repairability score as the previous iPod touch: 3 out of 10. Not great, but better than the Surface Pro 3’s 1 out of 10 repair rating.

This is great news and hopefully schools will soon pick up on these savings to connect more kids to great learning content, podcasts, etc…
