Yes, it’s the volume up button, but it’s also a hard button — it’s a physical button, as opposed to the soft buttons on the iPhone’s screen used to control video and still up to this point.
I think they should change the settings to where if you access the camera from the lock screen it should default to the still camera. Right now it can go to the video or still, dependent on what you used last.
Btw..are you guys scraping the bottom of the barrel for iOS 5 features, next thing you know, you will be posting articles on how you can activate the VIDEO camera w/ the volume buttons from the Headphones, and not just the still
I agree totally with you it seems every site is still posting about the features! like every single little thing…it should be over by now unless there is something super interesting other that using the volume up button to shoot video…
Agree, should default to camera, the number of times that I’ve thought I’m taking a pic but actually recording a video. Would be a nice addition to the settings.
And yes, I agree as well that really… this is a news article. Why not just update the original article? Second, I would have just assumed this, since the volume button is now linked to the shutter button on screen that this would work irrespective of which mode you’re in.

I knew, when the news was originally released about this, that the “up volume” button would start video recording, along with taking pictures.
I also believe that, if you ask ten people at random what they call the button to which this article refers, no one would call it a “hard button.”
Some readers have asked, so we ran the post. Even though it may not be interesting to you, Well-Informed Reader.
What would you call the hard button instead?
The volume up button….it happens to be its original name…..

Headphones works in iOS 4 to record and take photos. Middle button if I remember correctly.

The volume button is also a hard button. See response to K3V1Nbot below if you’re still confused.
