The iPhone 7 may not include a 3.5mm headphone jack, but Apple’s going to make sure your old headphones aren’t immediately obsolete by including an adapter with the new device.
Prepare to lose another dongle.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will ship with regular 3.5mm EarPods, according to a new report from Macotakara that claims Apple will include a 3.5mm to Lightning Adapter so you’re not force to buy new headphones with your new iPhone.
Apple has been rumored to be working on wireless Bluetooth EarPods as well as Lightning EarPods, but the inclusion of an adapter for headphones may ease the transition towards a wireless future.
The report also claims that by removing the headphone jack on the iPhone 7, Apple will add a row of speaker holes on the right side.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to be announced sometime in the fall. New features may also include a dual-lens camera on the iPhone 7 Plus, a simplified antenna design, new processor and more.

Good job reporting a rumor as a fact in the first two paragraphs. L O L
Given that the Lightning cables are horrifically undependable, this hardly warms my heart. I have two cables, one for my iPad and the other for my latest-gen iPod Touch. Both only work on one side now.
My headphone jacks, on the other hand, have never stopped working.
And, really, did anyone cry out for a speaker where the headphone jack used to be?
Try cleaning the schmutz/lint out of your lighting port.
I’ll give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

Buster, while I generally enjoy and appreciate your writing, I must say this “report” borders on drivel. First, it’s not clear—and will not be clear until it’s released—that the next iPhone will not include a 3.5″ audio jack. Second, perhaps the iPhone user who keeps his//her expensive smartphone in their back pocket all the time (ready to be bent or broken) is likely to “loose another dongle”, but personally I have never lost any accessory for an iPhone, nor have I bent, broken or lost the iPhone itself. In any case, ANALysts are too quick to deride Apple’s decisions, both before and after they happen. Such was the case with Firewire, USB, permanently installed batteries, moving away from Flash, and a slew of other decisions over the years. With few exceptions (actually, none I can remember), Apple has been proved to make the right, forward-thinking decisions.
Why would you be any more prone to lose the adapter than you are to lose the headphones? If you leave them connected to the 3.5mm plug the adapter will simply be a small extension of your already existing cable. Losing it is no more likely than losing the headphones themselves.
