Gaze upon iPhone 7’s Lightning EarPods in all their glory

But are they genuine?

New photos of what are claimed to be Apple’s next-generation EarPods all but confirm that its iPhone 7 series will ship without the beloved headphone jack.

The new EarPods, which surfaced on Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo, swap the 3.5mm jack we’ve been using for decades for a Lightning connector.

By now you’d be crazy to expect to see a headphone jack on the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus. For months, the rumors have told us Apple is killing it, and those claims have been backed up by a growing list of leaks.

According to a recent report, Apple will ease the pain by bundling a headphone jack to Lightning adapter with every iPhone 7. Others have claimed it will give us wireless headphones free of charge.

But photos posted on Weibo suggest we’ll get the same EarPods we’re already used to, but with a Lightning connector.

This seems like the most obvious route for Apple to take, but we’re pretty skeptical the EarPods in this photo are genuine. The Lightning connector on these EarPods is rounded towards its base, whereas Apple’s connectors don’t currently look like that.

It’s certainly possible this is a new look, but with EarPod clones so easy to come by, it seems more likely that these are yet more clones.

By “all but confirm” I assume you mean “has no bearing on the rumor”.

I’m still pretty skeptical about the “no headphone jack” rumor. They may or may not do it, but there’s no concrete evidence that says they’re taking it away.

The photo is not blurry enough.

So what happens when you want to charge your iPhone whilst listening to music?

Exactly. I’m doing that now with my iPhone 5…

Then you buy an accessory. Just like Macbook owners who want to use external hard drives.

Apparently Apple thinks we don’t mind shelling out extra cash for basic functionality.

That’s a good point…this is a terrible idea. Moving forward would be going the Bluetooth way. But then again i can see how it can help them financially, more ppl will buy Apple earbuds or supported headphones.

Or lets speculate even further and say to combat the charging your iphone while listening to music problem…the iphone 7 comes with wireless charging!

If this is real, its absolutely horrible design.

There is no way that a lightning cable (with its current design) can replace the headphone jack. It falls out too easy. A person could not put the phone in their pocket and expect the headphones to stay plugged in. I’ve tried charging the phone in my pocket with a portable battery and it doesnt work.
    Somethings wrong here.

Rather, “Gaze upon fake iPhone EarPods in all their phoniness”

Gotta love that Photoshopped photo on the left, and the one on the right with the Lightning connector that’s obviously been hacked off another cable, and taped onto the original EarPods cable. Silly stuff.
