Firefox 6 For Mac Is Officially Released, Download It Now

By •

In line with their promise to stick to a much more aggressive release schedule, Mozilla has just officially released version 6 of their popular Firefox browser.

Available for Mac as well as PC and Linux, Firefox 6 boasts a supposed 20% speed increase and support for new HTML5 and CSS3 elements.

That’s pretty much it, though. Part of going for a more aggressive release schedule means that future Firefox releases will be more like Chrome, where the difference between Firefox 6 and 7 might be just a couple of tweaks and a new feature or two.

One big omission of Firefox 6? No support for Lion’s new full screen mode. Boo, Mozilla. Boo!

I don’t understand what is taking all these developers so long… How long has the developer preview of Lion been available for developers to make their app compatible with all the stuff in Lion like full screen mode, and all the gestures like swiping back and forward through browser windows, and double tap to zoom in? GRRRR… I hate Safari and have been living without these new goodies because I refuse to use Safari, but this is just downright disappointing that they still don’t have support in the new version of Firefox.

I never thought that full screen would make as much difference as it does. I used to love using firefox over safari but will stick with safari until firefox can offer full screen integration..

with every new release, am loosing some of my add-ons as they are not being supported.  What to do?

  14. GH says:

Well, I guess what I said is bad.

  15. Fred Maxwell says:

    I see five options:

    1.  Do not update to the new release of Firefox
    2.  Delay updating until the add-ons that you value are made compatible
    3.  Seek out alternative add-ons that provide equivalent functionality.
    4.  Abandon add-ons that are no longer supported.
    5.  Hack the add-ons to tell Firefox that they are still compatible (often works, but risky).
