It’s too late for Halloween, but there’s plenty of time to get a mask of your distorted mug taken with Apple’s Photo Booth to make a splash at carnival celebrations.
Brooklyn-based designer Mark Pernice first made these huge grimacing masks out of his own face working with F/X superstar sculptor Christian Hanson. People liked these disturbing, wearable doppplegangers so much that Pernice is stumping to raise money to make more masks.
The series of six masks his making this time will eventually end up in an exhibit– we’ll keep you posted on details — and if you pledge the most, he’ll make one of you. Or your favorite pet, or maybe a relative. (Kick in $20 to the cause and you get a poster of one of his masks).
Cult of Mac talked to Pernice about which figure in Apple history he’d most like to make a mask of and why he decided to dress up as Freddie Mercury this Halloween.

Cult of Mac: Who in Apple history would you most like to make and wear a distorted Photo Booth mask of and why?
Mark Pernice: Well Jobs is the obvious choice but Wozniak has more of a lovable expressive face. I would put Philip Schiller’s mullet on him though and pay Justin Long to wear it for me.
CoM: Would you consider allowing the highest bidder to have a Photo Booth mask out of their own likeness made?
MP: Yes! In fact it’s highly encouraged. Their pet might be kind of cool too, or their grand mom.
CoM: Have you ever pulled any pranks wearing your mask?
MP: I’ve had a couple of people suggest I go on Chat Roulette with the mask on. I’m going to try this out. I’ll let you know how it goes.
CoM: What did you dress as for Halloween?
MP: I went to the Kickstarter Halloween party at their HQ last Friday and didn’t wear the mask. There are no eye holes for the sake of good photos. I could make holes but I’m afraid it would ruin it.
I regretted not wearing it or at least bringing it so I wrapped one of the posters (of it) around my face. On Saturday night, I was Freddie Mercury who needs no facial distortion.
