Two brilliant detectives will clash again as acclaimed London-based thriller Criminal Record returns for a second season, Apple TV+ said Thursday. The engrossing series stars Peter Capaldi of Doctor Who and Cush Jumbo of The Good Wife.

So the streamer confirmed what Jumbo said on a talk show back in February. The renewal is great news for fans of the show. If you haven’t tried it, you should stream the first season.

Apple TV+ renews London-based thriller Criminal Record for a second season

Criminal Record is a much-liked detective series from BAFTA Award nominee Paul Rutman (Vera, Indian Summers). It “features the return of the two brilliant detectives clashing once more in a complex murder investigation,” Apple TV+ said. The show stars Academy Award winner Capaldi (The Thick of It) as seasoned Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty, who has a legacy to protect, and Critics Choice Award nominee Jumbo (The Good Fight) as mercurial Detective Sergeant June Lenker, who has a lot to prove. Hegarty displays gravitas it seems foolish to challenge, but Lenker has enough brashness to do just that.

Here’s the streamer’s description of Criminal Record‘s second season:

In season two, June is the senior officer on the scene when a political rally is attacked by far-right counter-protesters. The violent clash leaves a young man dead and June, consumed with guilt, is desperate to bring the unknown killer to justice. It seems as if her best hope is Daniel, now a key figure in the shadowy world of police intelligence. He may have the answers she needs, but to get his help, she will have to accept a dangerous bargain.

Tod Productions and STV Studios produce the show, filmed in London. BAFTA Scotland Award winner Elaine Collins (Shetland, Vera) and Chris Sussman (Trying on Apple TV+, Good Omens) executive produce the second season along with Rutman, Capaldi and Jumbo.

Watch dramas and thrillers on Apple TV+

While Criminal Record‘s second season is still in the making and won’t show up for a while on Apple TV+, unfortunately, you can and should watch the whole first season if you haven’t already done so. And the streamer has plenty of other dramas and thrillers to enjoy, too.

The service is available by subscription for $9.99 with a seven-day free trial. You can also get it via any tier of the Apple One subscription bundle. For a limited time, customers who purchase and activate a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac or iPod touch can enjoy three months of Apple TV+ for free.

After launching in November 2019, “Apple TV+ became the first all-original streaming service to launch around the world, and has premiered more original hits and received more award recognitions faster than any other streaming service. To date, Apple Original films, documentaries and series have been honored with 471 wins and 2,090 award nominations and counting,” the service said.

In addition to award-winning movies and TV shows (including breakout soccer comedy Ted Lasso), Apple TV+ offers documentaries, dramas, comedies, kids shows and more.
