Fans of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin can enjoy an episode that was unexpectedly added to the end of season one of the historical comedy.

Unfortunately, it likely won’t be followed by any more episodes after its star, Noel Fielding, forced the show’s cancellation.

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is temporarily back

The humor in The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin derives from Fielding being a ridiculously wrong actor to portray a murderous, 18th-century English highwayman. He’s gentle and friendly, though he does love dressing up in black clothes. The goal of this deliberately absurd version of Turpin is to put some kindness into robbing travelers.

Fielding is the absolute center of the series, so when he abruptly stopped showing up for filming season two, Apple TV had no choice but to cancel the series in January.

At the time, there were hopes that some of what had already been filmed for the upcoming season could be salvaged and aired. It’s now clear those hopes have been fulfilled.

Subscribers to the Apple TV streaming service can now watch The Night of the Werebear. Apple describes it with, “When a monster terrorizes Hempstead, Dick and the gang set out to capture the beast and restore peace to the village.”

It’s labeled a special episode and was appended to season one. Apple TV didn’t announce it — the episode just appeared in the Apple TV application.

Which means that whether it will be followed by additional special episodes is anyone’s guess. But fans can’t hope for a season two, as The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is still cancelled.

Watch on Apple TV

Why Fielding dropped out of a show he helped create remains a mystery. It did well enough with viewers that Apple TV greenlit season two. He supposedly quit because of some unnamed illness, but it didn’t prevent him from co-hosting the current season of The Great British Bake Off.

Enjoy the historical comedy on Apple TV

Watching comes with a subscription to Apple TV (previously named Apple TV+). The service is $12.99 per month with a seven-day free trial. You can also get it via any tier of the Apple One subscription bundle.

Beyond comedies, Apple’s streaming video service also includes a library of sci-fi, drama, musicals, children’s shows, nature documentaries, etc.
