Data centers are not usually considered to be hazardous work environments, but Apple U.S. data centers have had a string of bad luck lately, and a new incident at the company’s center in North Carolina is adding to the fire.
Five people were reportedly injured in to a chlorine leak at the Maiden N.C. data center on Monday, reports the Charlotte Observer. It’s unclear how the leak occurred, however, initial reports reveal that hazmat crews are still at the site cleaning up.
Details about the leak haven’t been released by Apple or Catawba Fire and Rescue at this time. The incident comes after Apple’s Command Center in Mesa Arizona caught fire just last week. Luckily no one was injured in that accident.
The Maiden data center occupies 183-acres and is one of the largest data centers in the world with over 500,000-square-feet of data-crunching space.

What is the purpose of chlorine at a data center?
I’m guessing but probably related to controlling algae and or bacteria in the water used for evaporative cooling (AC).
Mr Hein,
What is the “fire” that has been added to as referred to in paragraph 1? What are the incidents that make up the “string of bad luck” at data centers. You mentioned one incident but that can’t be a string. Look at paragraph 2. Do you proofread? How about adding …”located in Maiden, NC.” to the title and then you would have all the relevant information contained in the story in one sentence.
I’m sorry but really why did you bother writing this at all? Your job cant’ suck this bad.
