The trailer for Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard is the first “interactive” game trailer I’ve seen. Check it out below. You hit the hotspots to “play” the game. Pretty cool. Reminds me of Myst.

Rainbow Six: Shadow Vanguard for the iPhone/iPod touch will be available on the App Store on March 17th.

Games like this need better (death) animations badly. It pulls the whole impression down with these weird looking deaths. Either ragdoll or better canned animations (the need for smoother animations isn’t limted to the death department though), I noticed that in a lot of first person shooters on iOS.

With the latest iPhones, iPods, and iPads all having cameras now, I desperately want FPS developers to work on TrackIR style, head tracking control schemes. Get the right mix of head tracking and auto-aim, and the genre could really get amazing. As it is, I still have to really be in the mood to play an FPS. It’s just right.

I understand it will be difficult, particularly dealing with a non-stationary camera, but those are problems with solutions (gotta be a way to link the head tracking of the camera to the gyroscope to figure out tell the game what’s intended movement and what isn’t)…

    oops. “It’s just NOT right.”
