Apple is making it easier to purchase Apple TV apps by giving users the ability to download them remotely from iOS, macOS, and Windows.
Developers can now create iTunes links for these devices that take customers directly to the product page for their tvOS app.
“Make it easier for customers to view your tvOS apps on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and on the iTunes Store on Mac and PC with a direct link your app’s product page,” Apple says. “Simply get the link from iTunes Link Maker and use it when promoting your app.”
[contextly_auto_sidebar] This will make it a lot easier to download new tvOS apps and games as you discover them. You no longer have to try to remember to download them later.
To take advantage of these links, Apple TV users will need to have enabled automatic downloads on their set-top box. Titles can then be purchased just like those on iOS, and a notification will inform you the download has been sent to your Apple TV.
If for some reason it doesn’t work, you’ll be able to find the app or game you bought in the Purchased section of the App Store on your Apple TV.
Sadly, there’s still no Apple TV section in the App Store on iOS or macOS, so you can’t do all of your app shopping for tvOS remotely. However, this is certainly a step in the right direction. Now, if only Apple would allow us to download any app from our browsers just like Google.
