As Promised, Apple Wipes iCloud Data. Could We See iOS 5 GM Released Today?

iTunes-Match-Wipe

Did you already undergo the rather tortuous process of getting your entire iTunes library mirrored onto Apple’s iTunes Match servers? Well, bum luck, champ, because Apple just reset all its iCloud Libraries a mere 15 minutes ago. You’ll have to start all over again.

The good news, though, is that it might mean Apple will release the iOS 5 Gold Master as early as today.

This move is hardly a surprise: Apple was warning developers that it would reset all iCloud-related data on their servers since Thursday, and so they have.

What this strongly indicates is that iOS 5 is about done. In previous reports, it has been suggested that Apple released the iOS 5 Gold Master to hardware manufacturers on Friday, and it will start being flashed onto the iPhone 4S/iPhone 5/iPod Touch starting today.

If true, it’s possible this afternoon will see a wider release of the iOS 5 GM build to developers. After all, iOS 5 is by most accounts pretty close to fully baked, and the next iPhone’s release is probably slated for October 14th.. just a few weeks away.

The timing’s all right. Let’s see what this afternoon holds!

“Fully baked!”  It reminds me of the scene in Ghostbusters when the mayor asks the ghostbusters: “What kind of a half-baked idea is that?”  Bill Murray then dryly responds: “I assure you that it is fully baked.”  Hysterical!!!
All joking aside, a nice article.  It’s just that when I hear the term “fully baked,” I’m not sure whether that is a positive or a negative!

Before the ios 5 GM is released to anyone the update to Lion with iCloud, iPhoto with photo stream and the GM of iTunes 10.5 must be ready to go.  The iCould resets mean nothing without the other software in place.

Hello!!! It is obvious why Apple is doing this – to avoid all of the lawsuits coming down the pike. iTunes Match allowed users to duplicate their music into the cloud even if it had been pirated. I guarantee that Match will be a different beast once this reset has been completed. I am surprised that no one is picking up on this.

Rudy, that’s not the case at all. The reason Apple charges $25 a year for iTunes Match is so they can pay for the licenses required to hold all the songs on the cloud and make them accessible to people with pirated copies. It doesn’t matter where you got the song from if you pay the $25 every year you have completely legal access to it.
