We’re eagerly anticipating iOS 9 next month, but Apple’s got a few more fixes to give us in iOS 8.4.1, which is likely the final mobile upgrade to iOS 8.
Apple released iOS 8.4.1 to the public this morning, bringing with it a number of performance enhancements and bug fixes, plus some nice updates for Apple Music and Beats 1.
In the release notes for iOS 8.4.1, Apple notes it resolved the following issues with Apple Music:
– Resolves issues that could prevent turning on iCloud Music Library
– Resolves an issue that hides added music because Apple Music was set to show offline music only
– Provides a way to add songs to a new playlist if there aren’t any playlists to choose from
– Resolves an issue that may show different artwork for an album on other devices
– Resolves several issues for artists while posting to Connect
– Fixes an issue where tapping Love doesn’t work as expected while listening to Beats 1
iPhone and iPad users can grab the new software via and over-the-air update under the Settings app. This will likely be Apple’s last version of iOS 8 before the release of iOS 9, which should coincide close the launch of the iPhone 6s. Apple’s rumored to be planning a event for September 9th to reveal its new iPhone lineup, plus some new iPad goodies as well.

Yes, but will it include the return of easy-to-see/easy-to-use/possibly-find actual play/pause/>> buttons? They are nearly invisible and hard to reach on the iPad. Will volume control return to the screen, or will it still be buried three non-intuitive clicks deep? When sorting by genre, will it allow you to access or plays songs in the genre and not just a list of albums which might contain a song in that genre? I wish they would spend less effort forcing a music subscription on me and just make it a pleasant experience to play our own music. Get the basics right first, then try to convince me to subscribe to something I don’t need.
Still can’t enable icloud music, this sucks!
A few issues I still have that is infuriating, unless I’m being dumb and I’m not using it properly
1) There doesn’t seem to be a way to rate a song anymore from the iOS App (I can only rely on iTunes). I use ratings for every song I own which affects all my smart playlists.
2) You can only make individual songs available for offline use, not whole albums or playlists.
3) If I add a song and I want to see the rest of the album on Apple Music, there’s no quick link way to do that, I have to search seperatly for it.
There are too many options in the menu on that ••• on each song, filled with irrelevant stuff. I don’t want to:
1) Share music
2) I’m using Apple Music, so I don’t want to show the album in the iTunes store
3) Do you need to create a genius playlist AND start a station, what’s the difference?
Add instead:
1) Show in Apple Music, so I can see the rest of the album
2) Rate! Let me rate the song!!!!
on the ••• at the top of the album or playlist, add Save Offline ALL
