While we’re certain Apple isn’t struggling to fill seats at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, its iPhone public relations team are reportedly contacting British journalists and inviting them to the attend the party.
According to a source speaking to U.K. blog Electricpig, the public relations team at Apple that handles everything iPhone has been approaching British journalists with major publications and requesting the pleasure of their company in at WWDC in San Francisco from June 6th.
While recent speculation would have you believe a new iPhone is just a dream until at least September, and that the event is purely iOS and Mac OS X focused, Electricpig believes there may be some new hardware after all:
The obvious conclusion would be that Apple is announcing a new iPhone. Or rather, an updated model. The iPhone 4S is slated as a stop-gap before the appearance of a true, ‘&%!*, they’ve done it again!’ game-changer next year.
Despite this, I maintain a new iPhone release before September is unlikely, even if the fifth-generation device is only a ‘minor’ improvement on the iPhone 4. Firstly, Apple has announced this year’s WWDC as “a preview of the future of iOS and Mac OS X,” which seems to suggest the event will be focused on software this year.
Furthermore, reports just last month claimed that production of the next iPhone hasn’t even begun yet, and to start the process just a month before the device is set to launch seems highly unlikely.
Of course, Apple has a great knack of keeping secrets, and assuming everyone at the company – and those in the supply chain – have been keeping quiet, it’s possible there may already be an iPhone 5 polished and packed up waiting for its summer release.
But more importantly than the next iPhone – I’m a British journalist – where’s my damn invite?

I don’t understand why everyone keeps saying apple are going to release a new iPhone in September…
Im not predicting anything but surely we all know apple is known for their set dates on releasing new products. Why does everything think they will change their routine?

What does Apple’s slogan have to do with announcements? They called WWDC 10 “A world of apps”, which suggests software development, but they announced the iPhone 4.
It suggests something’s going to get announced. Maybe iMusicCloudThingy? It would be news over here as Google’s and Amazon’s services aren’t available over here. Music wise we’re a pretty important country, and if music on the move/away from your PC base is going to be a big selling point Festival season could be a good time to push it.
How about Apple TV gets Apps? That would be worth getting some Brits over for, especially if it included iPlayer. And of course you could produce them without impacting on LCD supply.
It’s funny, leading up to the iPad 2 release, all the rumors were that it was going to be delayed, not available, whatever. Every time Apple is set to release a new product the same not enough parts/not ready/ delayed rumors pop up…
Also, it’s been reported, more than a few times, in the last few months that Apple is seriously cracking down on info leaks in it’s supply chain, so it makes sense that nobody is saying there is part orders for a new iPhone.
Finally, being that a lot of the rumors are based on the “preview of the future of iOS and Mac OS X,” this is Apple people, there software and hardware is always deeply, and unseperably, intertwined. A big part of the future of iOS is the machines running it.
Something tells me that this might have something to do with Spotify.
please someone tell gizmodo of the event…
